Accord is easier too mod. more mods, cheaper mods. Maximas handle better stock. and those times, if you race on a street, you'll see more than just a .1 difference.

Take into acount comfort. I tested the new accord. I used to have a 96 accord. Man the messed up what they had. I think the max has a better looking and more funcinal interier and more solid built.

Those are about ballpark times for a bone stock Accord V6 / Maxima/auto on a dead-stop launch. They're both capable of a little bit better times by power-braking on the launch and in the Maxima's case manually shifting the auto since it short-shifts about 600rpm before redline and robs the Maxima of some performance. With power-braking / power-shifting I think the Maxima is capable of a 7.5s 0-60 time, and the Accord V6 will probably do about 7.7s with just power-braking. The Accord V6's auto tranny shifts at redline so you don't have to power shift it.

I'd say the Accord V6 is a bit easier and cheaper to mod, agreeing with AznWontonboy, although the Maxima does have a supercharger (or a few) already available for it. The Accord V6 doesn't have any options besides custom for forced-induction, but Comptech is developing a supercharger for the Accord V6 right now. There is TONS of aftermarket support for the Accord.

As for which one to get, it really depends on what your specific needs are because they're both excellent cars.

If you want something that's economical and you don't really care so much about handling (and you don't want a stick shift) then I'd say go with the Accord V6. It's about as fast in a straight line as a Maxima/auto, but the Accord V6 has the advantage of being able to run on regular 87 pump octane fuel vs. the Maxima which requires premium. This will add up quickly if you drive a lot of miles like I do (30k/yr) But the Accord's main weakness is that its stock handling sucks real bad and would require massive amounts of money to get up to Maxima level.

If you want a car that can turn as well as go fast in a straight line, then the Maxima is the car for you. It has absolutely incredible handling capabilities (as was so kindly demonstrated by one of the guys here to me personally ) A sports car is one that can turn and handle well in addition to having some good straight line speed. The Maxima can do this, and hence it is THE"4 Door Sports Car" (4DSC) and the Accord V6 is not.

So if you just want straight line speed and don't care about handling so much and/or you need a car with low operational costs, then I'd say go with the Accord V6.

If you want a true 4DSC and want one that can turn as fast as it can accelerate then the Maxima is the car for you.

=========

I've always been a big fan of the Maxima, but when I was buying a car I didn't care about handling and I desired low operational costs because of my high mileage, so I choose the Accord V6.

If you're more curious about the Accord V6 then please feel free to stop by the Accord V6 forum that I look after - the link is in my signature below. There is a whole library of information on the Accord V6 in that forum and it will probably help you in your decision.

Happy car shopping!!

Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max Max !!!!! OK, enough of that, but really, when it comes down to the interior, the maxima is nicer. Also, its comforting to know there aren't 50 other cars EXACTLY like yours in the parking lot full of accords and camrys.

heh heh, well this *is* a Maxima forum

Hmmm, well stuff like that is always going to be subjective to one extent or another. I happen to like the Accord's interior better - but maybe that's why I bought one too

Well hey, life is tough when you're #1, but that's why tons of aftermarket is available to customize your ride

Your points are well taken, but like you said, mostly people will be pro-max on a maxima message board

i had a choice between a camry, accord, or maxima. all new models. the camry is a old geezers car, and some toyota's that i have driven, you would have to stand on the gas pedal to actually move. i only like the accord coupe, but i wanted 4 doors. maxima's styling wasnt so appealing to me, but it was better than the other choices. so i got myself a 5speed max. now the looks of the max are... beautiful

max

the styling is more aggressive on the new ones and the 22 extra hp help too, plust the accord is a little heavier, so the maxima is quite a bit faster than just .1 seconds.

Do you really want a car that everybody and their mother has. In every parking lot even when I am driving I see more Acords of all generation and Camry's vs every other car 5 to 1. At least with the MA it is not as common! Go MAX

Automatic max in 7.8? hardly. Try more like mid 7's, maybe a couple fast ones a few ticks lower. A 5spd max is about 7 flat. I've read a couple articles that backed that up but i don't have the links.

And the accord isn't that fast, stock. I used to own a 94 Grand Prix that was 0-60 in 8.1 and trust me, I NEVER lost to an accord. Not any year, not from any start. I did have my *** handed to me by a 4th gen max once though.

Get the max, then you'll be able to live the rest of your life without regret!

Actually that big hole comes in very handy. The break in the dash and the resulting hole is what gives me the knee room I need in the first place in order to be comfortable in the car. If it was a straight swept dash design like in the Maxima I wouldn't have any right leg room.

I use the huge hole for stowing my CD case for the changer. It stays nicely out of view and from outside the car you can't even see if there's anything in there or not. I also bury my radar detector underneath the CD case in the hole as well. It's a great spot for storing things.

That's one really great thing about the Accord - tons of storage space everywhere!

I was a lifelong Accord driver (many over the past 13 years). I went with the MAX because it had a V6 with a manual tranny and 4 doors. It is also the only other manufacturer that can come close to Honda in terms of quality and reliability (except the paint). Honda doesn't offer a 6 with a manual tranny at all. This may change in the future, and the new RSX looks pretty sweet (negatives - 2 doors and smallish and 4 cylinder).

All in all, I am very happy with the MAX. I stole the car from the dealer, and I've heard there is even better pricing now. The honda pricing probably isn't that great since the 2002 only has minor changes coming

I test drove the Accord v6 coupe before I drove the max. The accord seems to be the defintion of the word "car" as in it is very bland and drab. It is designed with 50 year old widows in mind who does't need 4 doors, and goes "crazy" by getting this "sporty" car...

It seemed to me like a toy car you would play with in your youth, the wedge shape (like the 80's subaru sports car) and the sloped tail light array, they just seem really boring.

The max seemed smoother to me, more powerful, with more character, and luxurious than the accord...

And honestly, I think a nissan dealer will give you a better deal than an accord dealer, imho...

hope I was helpful...
