AC Compressor motor is slipping ... Belt loose? (Photo uploaded)

I'm kinda a noob when it comes to car. But ...

When I was driving down an express way, about 50 - 55 mph, I noticed a burning smell from the AC vent. Then, about 10 seconds later, I see little white smoke coming up from under the hood. Panicked, I pulled over.

Here's the scene. I see little white smoke rising from under the motor belt, to the left of the hood. I have not had this problem ever before. I'm still smelling the burning smell, but not smoke ... Should I replace the belt, and probably oil change?

How much would it cost to replace the belt? It's kinda hot here in DC lately and I think something might be burning soon. Should I continue driving it or should I have it look at first?

Help or advice is much appreciated.

What were your driving conditions? Really hot? Long drive? Where was the engine temp at?

I was driving for about an hour at around 60 - 70 mph ... The engine's temperature was right at the middle of H and C ... (Is that what you are concerned about?)

Ok, I know what the problem is ... how can I fix it.

It seems that when the belt rotate, what looks like my AC compressor does not move. Or rather, it keeps slipping ... Lose belt? How can I adjust a lose belt? ...

The round motor on the image is the one that is slipping. Picture is taken from under ... Any idea?

Actually, is the AC compressor supposed to be rotating even when it is not engaged? ...

I'd remove the belt and make sure the compressor spins freely by hand first. you have more than a loose belt going on...... Read the stickys or fsm for belt adjustment info, Hint: you will need a 14mm wrench and socket.

yes, the clutch assembly (pulley + triangular looking thing) should always be rotating, but the actual a/c compressor does not always rotate. Does the pulley not rotate with the engine running? In the maintenance faq you will find instructions for replacing the bearing

Still append to the question, the motor on the image, the one that's in focus, closest ... Is it the AC compressor? I read the Haynes Manual and they said it's the AC compressor ... If it is, is it supposed to spin all the time, together with the belt?

yes, that's it, and we both kept responding to quickly, yes, it should always be rotating with the belt

Sorry if I missed something, but when the the A/C compressor is not engauged (not on) the triangular thing will be stopped, and the belt will still rotate around it. When you turn the A/C on the trinagle thing moves with the belt.
Hope that helps

There is a ring that rotates around the A/C compressor when its not on so the belt still spins freely.. If that is locked up on your car I would assume the belt would be torn up very quickly.. Here is what the compressor should look like: http://media.putfile.com/ac-compressor-fixed about half way through the video the compressor engages.

Uhm ... jellyfishian ... My AC compressor does not stay still before it's engaged like that in the video ... Rather, it kinda spins slowly now and then ... looks like it's slipping. This happen when the AC is not on. I'm gonna run home after work and see what happen when I engaged the AC compressor. Probably, I'll post video too.

Thanks man

Update on the Original problem:

I got 2 burnt fuses ... One is for the AC that's 7.5 and one is for the Fog Light 15 (No wonder why my fog lights haven't been working .... duh) Fusible Link box next to the battery ...

But still, how does that contribute to burning smell from under the serpentine belt .... I still can't figure it out ....
