Removing ash tray!?

Today i decided to disect my BOSE HU and swap out some resistors to make my display and CD player work.... or try to anyways.

I took off the vents, temp unit and the lower dash thing. Now my instructions tells me to unscrew the screw to the left of the ash tray and move it to the left to unsnap it.

I removed the screw but for the life of me I cannot get the stupid ashtray to unclip on the right side. Ive pryed, pulled, hit it and it wont go.

Does anybody have any experience with the step? What did you end up doing??

Thanks!

Try doing it with the ashtray open. If all else fails, yank the **** out of it (ASE certified method right there).

Thanks! haha, yeah I ended up using the ASE certified method I yanked the ****er as hard as i could and it finially broke free...

Well i took every board of the HU out and i came to the resistor that i need to fix.... I am not very excited, factory solder jobs are so tiny and perfect that I dont know if I will be able to get at the surface mount resistor. Im also going to try and do the aux mod as well if I can fix it Wish me luck haha

Well I took it 100% apart, did what i could to fix it and put it all back together. It was worth my time though. The display continues to not work but I was able to get my CD player to work

good to hear that you are satisfied with what u did but the astray was suppose to come out with ease once you open it..

doesn't it annoy you to use the cd player with no display?

Yeah I think that was it, I was trying to get it out with it shut. When I was putting it back together I forgot a screw and had to take it out again... thats when I found out the easy way to get it out.

The missing display is sort of annoying, but its not that big of a deal. I never listen to the radio so i dont need to scan through channels. And I pretty much know what songs are on my cds.

I really want to get the aux mod going. I couldnt find good enough directions on the web. I see where you solder your leads onto... but it doesnt show where the ends of the leads go. Maybe later ill get around to it. For now im just happy that the cd player works, I had a FM transmitter for my ipod and i hated how it sounded. I paid 80 bucks to the damn thing and it sounded so bad.

damn man, for all that trouble i would've put in a new head unit. my cd player stopped working and so did half of my blose speakers so i got a whole new setup including an alpine sub and jl's all around and a sirius radio with pioneer head and a 450 watt 6 channel jl amp. well worth it and i allready had the sub and head unit to start. but, i guess if you like not having a functional radio and a hardwired satellite radio with kick *** sound, then stick with stock.

Yeah.. I had nothing better to do for a couple hours so I went at it. My screen actually works now... how weird is that? Im pretty thrilled about that... saved me a few hundred bucks.

Thanks for the link, thats the thread which inspired me to do it. I understand where to solder it.... but it doesnt show you where the leads you solder on go to. They dont all go to the RCA jacks do they? otherwise that would be pretty easy, it would only take a couple hours from start to finish.
