tire size change for 17 inch rims

on my maxima i have 2003 OEM rims, i believe they are 17x7.5. Currently i have tire size 225/50 R17 on the rims, but i need new tires and i think i am going to go with size 235/45-17 for new tires because that is the size tire rack recommends and that size of tire is cheaper than what i have. what are the pros/cons of changing to this tire size??? will i have more wheel gap (my car is on hp's and h-techs, soon to be illumnia's and h-techs)??? thanks

you'll have more wheel gap, but the tires and wheels will be the correct size for the speedo readout

yes..the wheel gap will be a whopping 1/4 of an inch larger...do to the fact that a 225/50 has an overall diameter of 25.9" and the 235/45 has a OD of 25.5" give or take on manufacture. I realize that might be excessive for some people...but I think I would risk it.

You lose some comfort with a 235/45 v a 225/50. I always found that the 225/50 was cheaper than the 235/45.

I hated the 235/45. The last set that i had (on a 5th gen) was a pain. I'd have rather gone back to the 225/50.

That is just my experience, however.

over all tire diameter is the same between the two sizes---235/45 are a little wider

a 235 is 10mm wider than 225. But you lose sidewall. I say just go with the 225. Yea i down grade from a 225/45/17 to a 215/55/16 and took the comfort over the performance.

I am almost 100% sure I am going to go with the 235/45-17's now because they are cheaper. I think I am going to get Fuzion HRi's to replace my Kuhmo KH11's. Does anybody have anything to say about Fuzion HRi tires??

some people will say 235 are too wide for 17x7. Honestly, id probably stick with 225/50/17. Check out the hankook ventus es v4 105. cheap and are pretty sweet tires, nice tread pattern, good grip in dry/wet/snow. Havent really pushed them, but compared to the stock dying re92's they are 100000000x better. I have these on my 02 se, and it made a huge improvement.
