I thought I remembered that from that headers thread but I was hoping I thought wrong lol. I still wasn't able to check out my exhaust leak but I am allready thinking about replacing the cat with a aftermarket like a greddy and a cat-back like a pacesetters. It might not be a greddy sp2 but oh well. Feel free to comment.

Aftermarket Y pipes are different, but the stock ones are the same.

I've interchanged VE-5 Y pipes for VG auto pipes in the past.... (I used to keep a collection of good condition stock ones after installing aftermarket for my customers.... someone else would come in that needed one and was broke, so I'd sell 'em a used one for cheapola. same pipe, all cars.)

I thought the stock vg-to-ve y-pipes were clocked differently at the exhaust manifold connections?

Nope.
My VE-5 pipe was leaking when I bought the car. I swapped it with my old stock VG Auto pipe because the VG WSP Y wouldn't fit. the side-by-side pipes on the aftermarket Y interfere with the shift linkage.

Would I be able to find a Greddy sp2 for around $300? I'm replacing my exhaust because it's crapped out and I was hoping to get something better than a stock replacement.

I was going to get a pacesetters system but I've read they are crap. Are there any maxima.org sponsers that have stock replacements?

I got quoted $400 labor and parts for a new y-pipe. The flex part is shot. I found the y-pipe online for $122 at http://replacement.autopartswarehous...20Pipe&dp=true
What else do I need to complete the job? Does this y-pipe come with gaskets and hardware?

Yea, I talked to them and it's only the pipe. Is it possible to just replace the flex part of the y-pipe?

Is this ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WARPS...spagenameZWD1V ) better than the cattman y-pipe? I'll leave the cat. and cat.-back stock until I can get a greddy sp2.

Do they ship it with the crush rings, bolts, et al., or did you get those separately?

Comes with it. Make sure you e-mail them asking about shipping a few days after your order. I waited for mine and then asked about it when I didn't get it after a week and they shipped it right away.

Wow that makes them sound very unorganized, thanks for the heads up. I'm glad I can skip buying that stuff, which is what I originally planned.

Fixed:

Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics
The acceleration is quicker and smoother. I didn't unhook the battery for this, should I have and should I still do it?

It's a threaded metal shield that flexes which goes around those metal rings that flex. That's the "flex pipe". It could have been replaced but the new pipe is worth it, smoother ride.
