Removing IACV...risky business???
Removing IACV...risky business???
I'm sure a lot of folks out there have removed their idle-air control valve in their cars bcuz....well nissan didnt really make a great design for these things to breathe like they should i am learning. so if your system looks like it smokes 10 packs a day im sure a lot of u have removed a lot of the intake, emission, vacuum acc's. so...i took off my throttle body to clean it by removing the air filter as well as some typical pesky hoses thinking that i could get to some EGR pipes, tubes as well (i have code (P0400) for EGR failure but thinking its just clogged somewhere. well i failed to find a way to manuveur myself to take off my EGR so gave up til a later date. Ok, so the IACV is really easy for me to get to, and i have seen a couple people on here post the removal and cleaning of it...but the question is, why is my brother who is a master mechanic telling me (on phone)that might be a bad idea?? whats the real probability that something is going to not be the same when re-installed?? has anyone had any problems after removing and re-installing their IACV?? i cant see why it couldnt easily be resolved but i had to take his advice for the moment.
not dissing but master mechanics dont know everything about every car they have a general conception of how stuff works and applies that to fix problems which dosent always work out for them now removing your IACV is not risky as long as take your time and dont tighten the crap out of it when you install it just remmber take your time

yes it will stay high for a few hours or even days but it SHOULD come back to normal if u re-installed everything properly. this is the common answer i get when i read about people asking the same thing u r asking.
some time this summer i plan on taking off my TB and IACV at the same time for a thorough cleaning the way it is supposed to be cleaned. before i do this i do not want to "hide" the problem by adjusting the idle screw. if all else fails and idle stays high for more than a week then simply adjust the screw.
this may be because the previous owner had a low idle with a dirty IACV and adjusted the idle screw higher thus hiding the problem. after u clean it the screw it still high as well as the idle. u will never know untill u try it.
i have seen many write ups on doing this but none had any amount of detailed pics, i plan on shooting the whole process (will try to utilize my GF as a camera woman cause i dont want to waste time cleaning my hands and taking pictures very often)...

it's fine to take it off. Just don't mess with the Idle screw at this point. If you're unfamiliar with working on the car then he might mean that. You need to make sure its cleaned right and nothing is messed up and make sure that everything seals up afterwards. You'll be fine. If it is messed up take it to the master mechanic to fix it haha.
