Hard start after clutch job.........fixed?

Hey guys, well I have the mystery hard start after pulling the tranny problem on my max, I know about 10 cases of this that I found on the org and most of them where because of a poorly grounded starter. I get the **crank, crank, pause, backfire, crank, crank crank vrooooomm** and she finally startes. Well I read that this problem was solved by running some ground wires to the starter and tranny. Autozone is closed but I found a 8 gage ground wire in the garage and some clips and did my best. Pretty poor connections but I did the best i could, Ran a wire from the neg pole to one of the 14 mil bolts that hold the starter in. I noticed the car starts better. Now it seems to just take like a split second of consistant cranking and she starts. Got about 10 good starts out of her but its still not 100%. Hopefully once i get some better clips, make better connections, and run a second wire to the tranny I should be allright. Also my brother seems to think that my starter sounds a little loud (Starter is bran new) so he thinks that maybe my battery is getting a little weak so that can partly account for not a fast start. What do you guys think, anyone have sound/video clips of a hard start that was fixed by running these ground wires?

Why not add your own ground wires(tranny to chasis/body)

Ok, well i got some new wires and connectors and made some good solid connections. I used 8 gage wire, 1 from the neg to a starter bolt, and 1 from the neg to the tranny. My starting IS better, but its not 100% like some people experienced from doing this. I give my starting a b-, when it does start up good its still not very fast, and when its got a hard start it will crank crank pause, then start but nothing like what it was before I ran the ground wires. What do you guys think? any adivice

I just changed my clutch a few months back and have only driven her a bout 3 times....no license and I have been having the same exact problem, I'll look into the ground wires. But as you said it's still not what it used to be anyone else any ideas?

yeah, as others suggested it's a grounding issue between the trans/engine bellhousing, running a grounding wire to a starter bolt is the solution, has happened to tons of .org member, theres a 11 page thread called "crazy starting problem, replaced just about everything" Mad props to Crazy97 for the fix.....

True, i read threw a lot of this thread.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=452286&page=6

Im just really pissed now, i really thought this was gona solve my starting issue, and it did but not 100 percent. I mean i guess it feels like its still not grounded all the way but i mean there is so much contact area where the engine meets the bell houseing, and these connections i made are solid its hard to believe that its still not grounded properly. Im sure my spark plugs are alittle beat up from all the hard starts over the past few months but i mean the car feels fast and touchy, I feel like if the plugs where causing this problem that the car would feel sluggish, i may be wrong tho. I have not checky my the clutch inhibitor relay or whatever it is that is talked about in the thread above but I dont think that relay would be damaged from doing a clutch job. I also havent had a full tank of gas in a while, iv been living dollar by dollar now after freshman year, im sure a full tank of 91 wouldnt hurt. Anyone feel free to chime in about anything with these mystery starting problems.

I still had minor hard starts as well even after running assloads of good grounds, that went away when I did the swap and took a sanding disc to engine/trans, and a dremel wirewheel to the starter and bellhousing surfaces as well.

Same thing has been buggin me, I've been working on it for a couple weeks now, grounded the sh*t out of my car, still has hard starts, so I'm going to take a voltometer and see if somewhere along the line there's a shortage of electrical power...if not its on to the fuel system. Keep me updated on your quests on this really annoying problem.

I guess ill move my ground from the tranny to the other starter bolt. I didnt see much of a difference from that wire.

When people on the org have done this repair they ground one of the tranny bolts on driverside , on the right side of the trannsmission of ur looking at ur car in front of it.
