for those who completed the 5spd swap.

`sup fellas. My NY state inspection is coming up soon. I need to know if after completing the swap will affect me getting an inspection done.

The main issue for is that the title on my car states automatic. do I have to change the title from auto to stick?

they won't look at your title. they just need to know how to drive stick to run the dyno. if your emissions and safety pass then it'll pass.

I was curious about that too. But as far as I can tell my state just wants the car to pass so who knows. I have to get one in November of this year. Last time I went they just put it through the FAST PASS dyno and it was done in 5 mins so dont know.

IL lists the transmission type, they crossed it out and wrote manual. The guy was confused as hell, but they passed it.

Then again, we only have the sniffer test.

You might have an issue with reverse lights if they check for that. But thats easy enough to wire up when you do the swap. You only have to do 4wires to get reverse working. Make sure you buy a reverse-neutral switch to put in as well.

On my last state inspection, they put my transmission type as automatic on the emissions printout results. Seeing as my car is obviously a stick, it cant be that important if someone numbnut typed in auto.

are you a swapper or was yours 5speed from the factory? if the latter, then that is pretty sad on their part to write that down wrong. but come to think of it, probably 10% of the driving population today has never heard of a manual transmission. and probably another 10% have heard of them but don't know what's different about them. Heck, my own cousin (whose dad owns a stickshift work truck) said "I don't think I can drive a stick. I wouldn't know how to drive with 2 brake pedals."

but, um, when I do my swap i'll just let my papers stay as-are unless an issue comes up. if it does, i'll deal with the registration or whatnot at that time.

edit: nevermind, I just found this

"Recent changes to the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Law of 2005 provide that vehicles of model year 1995 and older that are in compliance with the law as of February 1, 2007, will no longer be subject to emissions testing."

That is sweet.
