Possible mod for a rear seat air vent?
Possible mod for a rear seat air vent?
I have been working on the idea about installing a rear air vent, so the back of the car gets cool air too. I wont release to much about it yet, I want to see if its plausible before I do, but I can say, it would be quite easy considering the idea. It would require very little supplies and money, I just need to see if I can find a vent that will work. Has anyone thought of this before?
Oh, and if you want to help, I need a vent from a 4th gen, a side dash vent(the one near the driver or passenger).
Comments, questions?

Not untapped(haha, I guess I did make it sound like tehre was a big secret...), I just figured that I would try it before you guys wasted your time. But anyway, I guess I figured I would run some sort of duct out of the center console vents, through the center console, and out the back of it. With the adjustable vent, you could turn it off, move it, etc...instead of the standard feet vents(which I didnt even know about...). Anyway, it seems simple enough to do in about 30 minutes or so, and would be something unique!

Cool?... yes
Worth the time and effort to make your passengers more comfortable?.... No

cool air on your face = very nice
open sky above ur head = very very nice
passenger in back seat = waste of time/gas/money/performance
custom Rear Vent = Cool Idea
doing it your self = you use ur car for something else ;-)
And I do agree at times it does get hot back there
invest in tint or something more useful, do u drive with lots of passengers all the time and they complain there is no AC vent in the back? the only decent place u could place such a vent is under the passenger and driver seats, pointing to the rear seats and even then, cool air will only hit the passenger's feet and not face or body.
i think this is not a worth while mod.

I looked at it last night, and I dont think it would be mush over 30 minutes. I will have to see, but for hte time and effort, it would help considering that it takes a while for the back to cool, and once it does, its not as cool as the front.
Ill let you knoe how it goes once I do some more testing.

You generally use the floor vents for heating and the higher vents for A/C, because heat will rise past your body and cold air will fall past your body. If you did it the other way around your feet would never get warm and your torso would never get cold.

Sounds like a great idea, good luck man. I feel bad for those in the back, even with the tinted windows the combo of a dark blue car and a black interior usually gets them sweating in 90+ degree weather.
