Dipstick oil level- where should it be?

99 maxima- I was filling it to the top mark but the owners manual says the top mark is the start of the "too full" area, the other mark lower is the add oil mark so do most people run it between?

does a hi oil level cause rear main leak?

From my experience, it's typically set-up to read 1 quart. Hatched area = 1 qt, roughly. SO, Keep it as close to the top as possible.
