I currently have a 3rd gen maxima. It needs a paint job, strut, new muffler seats, and a bunch of other stupid stuff. I was thinking about just selling it and buying a 4th gen. I have talked to my parents and the will co-sign on a loan. What are the biggest things you like/dislike about your max. also what did you pay for it. Are the 4th gen's faster than the 3rds? tia

what i do not like about 4th gen, is that they eat up gas during driving in city, its like 10-12 miles per gallon.
otherwise they are fine cars and fun to drive, fast and flexible. Buy SE with sunroof. or GLE which is loaded. All is depending on your money bro!

10-12?? what the H*LL are you doing to get that milage?? ive never gotten anything less than about 23, and thats drving hard or bad gas. 95 ad 96's weigh the least, and 95's have the least emmisions and what not, making it the fastest of the 4th's. mine is a 95 auto, wish it was a standard, but what can ya do... mine's got all the options, dont worry about getting BOSE, mine is out anyways, not worth it if you are upgrading anyways, but if you get leather, you might have to include the BOSE with the packages. anyways, goodluck finding a 5 spd, auto's are around though. Enjoy the Ride

Allthough I have a 00, my dad has a 99 SE Special Edition and its really sweet. I love the look of the 4th gen Maxima. Gas mileage is okay for such a ffast engine. Acceleration is good. The inside of the car is roomy, comfy, and good looking. Hell, my dad does no service except for oil and he has 98k on his 99 max with no problems except a new clutch, and that was his fault. Definitely get a maxima, its a great car dude, good luck!

I hate the steering-wheel size/look on the '96. Shakes quite a bit during high speeds (150km+). Rest is fine.

I have two generation Maximas (3rd and 4th). They are both SE's and are autos. My 4th generation Maxima is faster but I enjoy driving my 3rd generation more. I drive the two pretty hard and they both handle pretty good but the 4th has a little edge over the 3rd gen in handling. About the 4th gen eating up gas and getting 10-12 miles per gallon is NOT true. I don't know how you came to that figure because I live in LA and hit traffic almost everyday, even on a Sunday. Every time I get a chance to get ahead a car length I take it. Getting that mileage is not possible in any worst case scenario. Back to the subject. I'll tell you what I don't like about my 4th gen compared to the 3rd gen
1.)MY 4th generation does not have automatic seatbelts.
2.)The Bose system in the 3rd gen is better and louder.
3.)The 4th gen did not come with the brownish tinted windows from factory.
4.)The 3rd gen has heated mirrors.
5.)I love the look of dual tiped exhaust pipes on the 3rd gen (4th gen is single).
6.)I wish my 4th gen had the door handles like my 3rd gen.
7.)4th gen paints suck!!! Discolored bumper and Sh!* !!!!
8.)Last but NOT least, HERE IT GOES, My brand new 99 SE-L 4th gen............ RATTLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still love both cars but NISSAN put more care and love into the 3RD GENERATIONS! You can definately fix many of the problems on the 4th gen with a little thinking and modification. I don't want to shy you away from the 4th gen because all in all it is a great car. I just wanted Nissan to build it like it was hand made. You know what I mean? GOOD LUCK!!

Get a 4th they are a great car, if you want a goodlooking car that is stock get a 97-99SE if you can afford it. The 97-99SE's are the best looking Maxima's in stock form you really dont have to do much to it if you dont want to.
