Starting Problem Looooooong Starts

okay this usually happens after there is a change in weather and the car sat through it for like 6 hours. either rain or a raise/drop in temperature it seems. i have to hold my key longer for the car to start. takes maybe 2 seconds for it to start, instead of the very quick starts i've had before. the problem seems to get worse every week. i have to hold the key in the start position longer, it seems like it might not start then it finally does. i had a CEL for an o2 sensor and knock sensor. i replaced the o2 sensor last night and i had a long hard (no homo) start problem today after it rained. HELP ME!

Thanks!

Ditto on ignition switch, check battery @ local auto store for free to eliminate that as possibility then you can remove the starter and have it tested too. Should be one of those three things. Had the same problem, i regreased my starter but ended up having to get a rebuilt one.

I have the same problem, if you wiggle the key while you have it cranked, it should catch and start up, I order the egnition switch from dave b the parts guy and am just waiting for it. Supposed to be real easy to fix.

Don't forget to check the starter motor too, if it's the original one.

http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm

Basically, a symptom of a bad ECTS is loooonngggg starting after you've driven the car for a while and let it sit for a little bit (until its warm, not "hot" or completely cold).

I would drive the car, so it would be "hot" or @ operating temp., then i'd park and leave it for an hour or so. If i went back to start it after it sat for 1hr+, it would take me 3X more cranking to get to turn over.

Of course, outside temperatures have an influence in houw fast the engine cools down.

The ignition switch is an easy swap unless u have a car alarm like mine thats spliced into the ignition switch. Still was not too bad just took longer.

That is EXACTLY what is happening. I will drive the car on the highway for 20 minutes, then let it sit for 6+ hours. When I would start my car it would take a lot longer to start. Thanks for the information.

I replaced the ignition switch and it was a b!tch because of my Viper alarm.

The starter was replaced about 3 or 4 months ago.

you're welcome! I've had my starter and ignition switch replaced @ about 120,000 milles. That ECTS can make you think evil thoughts (like fuel pump or FPR issues)
