Carbon Fiber Gas Cover

Does anyone know where to get a CF gas cap cover/ Do I need the hinge from my old one? The cover on mine currently was damaged by the previous owner. OE replacements are expensive, junk yards a pain in the *** and a waste off time. PM me if you have one for sale...

Try to look for cars that are parting out in the classifieds section.

I'd contact fanaticcrockford or just browse the 4thgen classifieds for an OEM gas cover. 2 square inches or CF isn't going to save you any weight, and it would just look weird. Or go to a junkyard, would probably be your best bet.

How much would you pay for one? I can make you a custom aircraft grade carbon fiber gas cover.

yeh, and also reduce a chunk of weight and lower your 0-60 time AND improve gas mileage cause its made out of carbon fiber.

If anybody wants one I will make you one for 25$. All I need is your old cover (ill take the hinges) and I will send it back attached to the CF plate. They will be made of aircraft grade carbon fiber and will be approx .2" thick. Extremely strong and will add style to any max. There will also be billet screws that attach it through the plate to the hinge, i will use liquid weld on special request if you dont want any screws showing. Send me a PM if you want.

its one of many special, secret characteristics that carbon fiber has that most people don't know.

you'll catch on soon enough. you still new here

You have a picture of your product? CaptainFill

a CF gas cover alone looks like poop. But a little CF here a little there GOES a long way to look sexy. Like a CF lip kit and hood with a gas cap would look really nice.
But all CF just look like crap. I saw a STI at just tires with CF fenders hood wing trunk mirrors door handles and the entire interior. But the tard has a sound system in there that shook the ground - 200lb in weight + 300lbs in audio.

Nope. I don't haha. My paps does carbon fiber composite stuff where he works. Id draw it up in CAD, have it cut out and then fabricate it onto the factory hinge.

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention a 200hp increase with it, turbofoil hydraulophonics measurements to the accuracy of pi. Makes your car way faster. haha

Heres a link to my CF mousepad http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/7458/cfsq4.jpg it will be made of very similar thicknesses.

Sorry for the color burn and overall crappy picture, its really hard to take a picture of it, too shiny and cant focus on it because it has too many dimensions, ill try again and repost any better pictures.

Well I would love to have you make one Captainfill, but my hinge has been bent badly. I will have to find one, then send it to you. I will PM you when I am ready.

As for looks, I plan on putting a CF trunk and hood on soon. My spoiler broke off the trunk lid, chips on the hood, and I wouldn't mind losing 150 lbs. and lowering the center of gravity. Not to mention a new OEM trunk is more than $600.00, why not go CF. I am not sure about the pillars, I will probably just paint and clearcoat them black. So many things to do, so little time. I just want to a little more right now...

Exactly how does adding a CF hood and trunk lower your center of gravity? And, who told you that putting on a CF hood and trunk will take off 150lbs?

Trunk lid weighs approx. 70 lbs. Hood weighs approx. 85-95 lbs. (CF trunk 16lbs., CF Hood 20lbs.) Though not a substantial drop in the center of gravity, it is probably measurable.

Production based race cars and a number of high performance road cars such as the BMW M3 GTR remove the standard roof and replace it with CF or fiberglass to lower the center of gravity, sometimes by almost a 1/2" in extreme cases. This isn't nearly as effective for fuel savings as removing unsprung mass of course. It can however make a difference in handling characteristics (body roll), and it looks cool anyways. 150 lbs. is 5% of the GVW (3100lbs.).

Anyhow Vlasic, I am just estimating and no one told me anything. Do you know something different? Or are you just hating?

Your OEM hood and trunk weights are way too high.

Ya those values are way too high. I have not personally weighed them, but I have picked up each one, and there is no way they are that heavy.

CF hood/trunk would technically lower your CG ever so slightly, but it's nothing you'll notice. Maybe a solid CF roof.... especially with the Maxima having a nice heavy glass sunroof up there.

I'd be in for one of those CF mousepads though...

Yes, that is precisely what I meant. I wasn't at all using it solely as a point of contrast to CF hoods and trunks.
