driveaxle boot has hole
P.Side driveaxle boot has a hole big enough to put my thumb into. Lots of grease on the outside, but that is to be expected. Does this need to be fixed right away? Or do I have some time? Judging by how much grease there is, it's been torn for a while. I won't put off fixing it very long, but need to know if it should be fixed right away. Can I pick up the boot alone or what?

I would replace it as soon as possible. You don't want the grease to dry up. It's a sloppy job to replace if you don't know hot to do it so might as well let a mechanic do it. It shouldn't cost that much. If you are going to buy the replacement boot, don't get it from the dealer. Even though the quality of the boot is better, you'll need to remove the entire axle to replace that kind of boot. At that point you might as well replace the entire axle that comes with the boot.

well where should I get the replacement boot then if not from Nissan? I'll probably have the family mechanic do it. He does work for the family when I can't fix things so it won't be too bad of $$. I don't know why I would buy the whole axle instead of the boot. Raxles go for $120-$160, I'm sure the boot doesn't cost that much ha.

You can replace the boot with a split type that will allow you to leave the axle in the car, but those basically suck and there's no real guarantee that the joint is okay and won't fail soon after the boot replacement.
If you don't want to go raxles, just get a reman from an auto parts store, about $50-60 + core, and probably the same labor cost for R&R.
