Just curious. Anybody know the weight of just the wheels without the tires?

Thanks

common guys

somebody's gotta know. Or at least care enough to post.

Think about it this way.

aesthetics: Most all will agree that the wheel-well on the 4th gen is too large a gap. Most of us believe that larger wheels will look better on the Max combined with lowering springs.

performance: Larger diameter wheels results in more rotational mass for the engine to turn and thus slows the car's acceleration. Simply putting on another pair of 16's, but of considerably lower weight, will increase the car's acceleration.

Knowing where we start with our wheel weights/diameter ration gives us a good estimate of how we can effectively maximize our acceleration with larger wheels.

For a pure diameter swap 16" for 16", I've found a pair of ALT Wheels(ATL-210 Lite Speed) that weigh only 15.5 lbs.

For the 17" lover in all of us, the RAcing Hart (CP-035) weighs in at a low 13.5 lbs

My favorites of the 18" x 7.5" are the Kosei Racing Wheels (RT Penta) coming in at only 18.5 lbs.

It is possible to go large without giving up too much acceleration.

-just the thoughts of a .org member in search of some new wheels by next summer.

Now tell me this... Did you see an acceleration gain or loss with these? How much with either. Did you ever do a before and after 1/4 mile run?

IIRC, it's around 43lbs with stock tire (215/55 Toyo Proxies or Goodyear RS-A).

RE: Racing Harts...

Getting pictures developed (no money/need for a digital camera). The acceleration is just about the same with the wheels, however there is a much improved feel for the road, and less weight shift towards the rear during acceleration. Yes, they are incedibly light (I put 1 of the wheels on my car with 1 hand as a bet). The M6s are really nice too, but they are not quite as light. I think the look even better than mine, and I would have gotten them were they the same weight. Sorry, no before/after 1/4 mile runs. When I go to the track I usually use the stock wheels without hubcaps. But I'll try both and post them here - no harm done. Just trying to help.

Dang! Those rims are so expensive. Maybe I should just keep my stock wheels and take the hub caps off!

RE: Abnorm...

Wheels without hubcaps? Take them to the track - look pretty HARDCORE. Take them to the street - look pretty GHETT. There are lots of other light wheels that aren't so expensive. These just have that phrase "the LIGHTEST 17" wheels". But what about the others that way 1 pound more???? I don't know of them, but I know they exist - just ask around. I know Volk TE-37s are really nice and light, but they are $$$ too. Just trying to help.

wheel deal

I believe that the '97 stock 16 x 6.5" rim weighs about 21 lbs.
and about 41lbs. with a 215/55/16 tire…

I've was looking into getting new wheels for a long time.
At first it was just the looks, but as I learned more, weight also became a factor.
[And of course price was also a big factor.]
I wanted dark rims - anthracite, gunmetal, maybe even black.

Here's what I was looking at:

Kosei K1 Racing
16 x 7.5 - 15.5 lbs. [$159ea @ TireRack]
17 x 7.5 - 16.7 lbs. [$199ea @ TireRack]

Kosei Racing Seneka
16 x 7 - 19.0 lbs. [$169ea @ TireRack]

SSR Competitions [aka: Type-C]
16x7 11.0
16x8 12.1
17x7.5 12.7 [nice and light but $375ea !!! @ TireRack]
17x8 13.1

SSR Integral
17x7 16 or 17 lbs.? [$299ea @ TireRack]
17x8 18.0

Tenzo R - AV7 [Gunmetal]
17 x 7 - 20 lbs. [$165ea @ scvmotorworks.com]

Team Loco 142
16 x 7 - 22 lbs. [$139ea @ TireRack]

TSW Revo - now available in anthracite!
17 x 7 - 25 lbs. - prolly around $175 each
17 x 8 - 25.75 lbs.
Too heavy

TSW Big Deep
17 x 7 - 23.25 lbs.

O.Z. F1 Cup
17 x 7 - 25 lbs. [$250ea @ TireRack]
18 x 8 - 25.3 lbs. too heavy

OZ F1 Plus
17 x 7.5 - 24/26 lbs.?

Tenzo - SHU - 4 [Gunmetal]
17 x 7 - 19 lbs. / 42 offset
18 x 7.5 - ?? lbs. / 42 offset

Volk Racing- (race applications) TE37
15x6.0 8.1 lbs.
15x6.5 8.8 lbs.
15x7 9.2 lbs.
16x7 11.2 lbs.
17x7.5 15.0 lbs. nice and light but $

Anyway, I finally decided and I placed an order for the Kosei K1 Racing 17 x 7.5
with TireRack about 3 weeks ago now but they have a problem
- only 2 in stock and can't find another 2.
They say I'll have to wait maybe 60 days!

I've got the Kosei K1 16 X 7.5 on my Maxima. Visit my site for picks. This combo weighs slightly more than 38lbs with a Yokohama Avid V4 215/55. I love the K1s because they are wide and fit flush with the wheelwells. Since they are a thin spoke and my car is lowered, many people mistake them for 17s.

The advantages of lightweight rims are better acceleration, braking, handling, and ride. The only disadvantage is they are more fragile unless you go with forged wheels ($300+ each). The K1s are pressure cast which makes them relatively strong. I've nailed some huge potholes and have had no problems. The taller tires help out a lot. My current setup handles better than my old 17" 235/45 Z-rated setup.

I went to a tire and rim shop last week and weighed some things:

92 300zx 16x7.5 -- 17.5-18lb
97 Maxima se 16x6.5 -- 19.5-20lb
01 Maxima se 17x? 6spoke with tire -- 49-49.5lb

sorry these weights are as accurate as my scale would read.
It did weigh me correctly when I stepped on it if that counts for anything.

Lighter wheels are a great idea when the rims are forged or the weight is reduced by using magnessium. (I had a set of magnessium minilites that I recall weighed about 6 lbs each.) However, lighter on a regular alloy wheel usually means thinner, which means more prone to damage. You can avoid some of the damagability by selecting a wheel that has more support for the rim, although you might have to be an engineer to decide it some of them give more or less support.

You can't expect a $150 wheel to be forged. However, you can probably buy a couple of spares and still save a significant amount of money in the long run compared to forged or magnesium wheels.

Is that a typo?
I thought the Kosei K1 17 x 7.5 weighed 16.7 lbs each?

At any rate, if you have 4 of the K1-s

in Anthracite

in 17 x 7

in stock now,

I am very interested...

How much to ship to Ridgefield, CT 06877?

And about how long will it take?

Thanks VERY much

The weight is 16.0 - 16.5 lbs. There's no exact weight since there are slight variance between each wheel.

There is no 17x7 size available; only 17x7.5.

The anthracite is on backorder until October.

Do you carry Enkei RP01 or RP05 (both 17x8), and if so, how much do they cost?

I haven't opened an account with Discount Tire yet; they're the only ones that carry the RPO1 or 5.
