I have read in many threads about removing a plastic piece under the nose of the car. Can you guys be more specific describing which piece you are talking about? Thanks.

the big POS that sticks down like 2 inches...you can't miss it when you look under the car

 

Nothing sticks out to me. Are you possibly talking about the valence?

 

from a distance when you look at the underneath of the front of the car.......that is when you will see it

 

Mine got ripped off last winter, still off. A shimmy fix? no way

i have an 05 and it vibrates like crazy when hit about 70 i hate when that happens.so im going to try to remove dat plastic piece from under the car and see if it works.thanx for the find..

 

Then your's wasn't caused by it. Some are.

I have a wicked 04 with severe shimmy at 55-60, my LtCol was in the car and was wondering if I was OK, I was shaking bad. I told him it is the car, 2nd set of tires on it, hunter balanced, and dealer blames it on tires out of round.....second set out of round.....yea, right. I took my hands off the wheel, LtCol said, DAMN, no kidding, how much did you pay for this car...

Anyone else try this? I am looking forward to doing it.

Another funny thing, 6 months ago I wa driving to Las Cruces New Mexico, was winter. Going 80mph in the Max on the highway, saw a piece of snow in the road, car on right side of me, no way to change lanes, I just thought it was snow....BAM!!!!! Turned out to be a chunk of ice from a big rigs mud flap. Then the hood was vibrating so bad, almost flapping up and down, was afraid I would loose the hood, limped all the way to the dealer in Las Cruces. Turned out the ice ripped almost all the plastic plugs from the black air spoiler. Was pushing wind under my hood. Those damn plastic plugs were expensive to fix, did not loose the plastic air spoiler. Tell you, that spoiler does do something....first hand experience. Now, wishing I should have just ripped it off on the side of the road, saved time and money at the dealer.....and it might have fixed the shimmy. Just a story to share. Wondering if removal can effect air cooling issues, it does get over 110 out here and sometimes, like in the Camaro, they divert the air to cool the engine so it will not overheat....something to look at also.

 

Im glad this shimmy crap is over, In my honest opinion, it was the tires..once I changed the GY eagle F1s to a set of contis, it never came back, no shimmy with my summer set of wheels either

Its the last thing causing the shimmy after you've fixed all other problems aka rotors, alignment, bent tie rods, out of round rims, tire pressure.

The shimmy came back on mine and I discovered that the tire pressure of one back tire was low. Once I filled it up, the shimmy disappeared. (I took my plastic piece off)

It seems to me that removing that big plastic piece would expose some pretty important parts of the engine....Sure this is such a good idea?

 

the lower air dam does protect a few things underneath the car. pulling it off will probably not reduce the vibration. The main reason I traded mine in was because after MANY trips and replacement of most of the suspension on my car it still had the vibration. If your car still has ANY warranty left start the ball rolling on getting a file of the problems you are having. If you look at most of my early posts when I first joined the.org you'll see why I suggest this.

 

i took the plastic piece off of my car today ....is this a bad idea ? should i put it back on ? any advise would help thanks

 

funny how i didn't get a shimmy until AFTER mine was removed.

it reduces drag into the engine bay. your aerodynamics will reduce if u remove it.

it does not "fix" the shimmy. perhaps some do not notice it somehow, but the inbalance still exits somewhere.

 

It works, lip has been trimmed and now it's gone

 

That plastic piece is the front bumper guard that all cars have to prevent scraping the underside of your front bumper. Like going down a steep hill onto a level surface. I wouldn't take it off. No way that would prevent a shimmy. lol Glad I don't have that problem. Anyone have issues with a shimmy with 2004 cars produced after February of 2004? Mines a March 2004, and I'm good.

 

You're right^ only numerous amounts of people have tried it and it worked, but hey...you seem to be the pro here

 

I have an 04 4AT and was wondering how do you find the date of the manufacturing of the car?
