Hello! I saw so many fuel system cleaners in auto store. Which one do you guys recommend or commonly used? Is it going to improve gas milage and give better performance? Thanks!

 

Most likely none, but you may want to consult with someone who has the same generation Maxima as you.

 

i use the Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner. I use it every 3000 miles.

Cleans deposits from fuel injectors, carburetors, ports, valves and combustion chambers. Works in one tankful while you drive to reduce deposit related engine knock, ping, run-on, and cold start problems. Recommended for use every 3,000 miles. 20 oz. bottle.

BG44K. About $15/can on Ebay.

 

Safest bet would be Nissan fuel system cleaner. It comes in a metal bottle, white color with the nissan logo and blue font. I've seen it sold at several Nissan Dealership parts dept.

If something goes wrong, Blame Nissan.

Lol seriously, did you just type that from the label? Personally I think stuff like that has potential to degrade seals and rubber lines. Gasoline is a solvent itself, and now you're putting in something that is even harsher.

I just fuel up premium and go, my original injectors lasted for 100K over 13 years. Use the right spark plugs and replace them on schedule, your engine will be quite fine without whatever this stuff is. Knock results from bad fuel detonating early, not "buildup".

And remember, if any of these additives are so great, they would be used as fuel additives at the pump.

 

Except that knock and detonation can result from excessive carbon buildup. But regardless, who has had their maxima 'run-on'???

I had to go read about "run-on" as well. Apparently this is when the fuel system drips fuel after the engine is off.

So for fuel-injected systems this could be:

I) The needle is blocked from descending completely, so it would run rich all the time.
II) It could be going down completely, but there is damage that lets fuel drip anyway.
II) Just stuck open completely.

All these seem like a bad/old injector issue, not anything that would warrant a cleaning agent, but just replacement.

Search around the 3rd-gen or older forums. People with old engines that have strange problems often try things like these as a solution, so there has been much discussion.
