3.5 swap with 3.5 pans

hey i have searched and have come up with some answers, but not to my direct question.

i am about to drop in my 3.5 swap, it is basically all set aside from the coolant tubes (in the mail)....i am using a full 3.5 engine with a 3.0 thermostat, 3.0 coolant tubes....and 3.5 oil pans...as you know...the tube coming from the filter housing is used for the cooler...you think it is possible to put a hose to hold the pressure on this and cap it off? or what else should i do? i do not want to run the vq35 oil cooler...if anything i will run an extra supra turbo oil cooler i have, which uses normal hoses to connect it...then run the other side into the oil filter sandwich adaptor i have (with some kind of adaptor to thread into it obviously)....but, i would rather just cap it off. any insight on this?

I'm not positive on this, but I believe you can simply use the 3.0 thermostat housing and you will be good, and install a regular bolt in the back of the block. If I'm wrong than a bolt in the coolant line with a hose clamp should do just fine. Allthough I'm still going to tell you that retaining the 3.5 oil cooler gets my vote.

Also if you use the 3.0 oil filter threads on the 3.5 pan you can totally remove the 3.5 cooler

Just keep the 3.5 thermostat housing and the oil cooler.
Don't try and out engineer the engineers. You can use all the cooling you can get. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

i see your point but the 3 liter doesnt have a cooler and its essentially the same engine. i believe ill be fine. ill end up monitoring the oil and water temp anyway once it is up and running.

if anything ill run a real oil cooler off my filter sandwich plate if the temps are running a bit hot, as stated in the first post.
