New PB: dandymax you can put that hat away ! (video)

Chariot ran a 13.530@101mph with a 2.10 60 foot. Dan said several months back he would eat his hat if I couldnt do it. The good news is the chariot gets a new pb, the bad news is no video of dandymax eating a hat on youtube !!

He said he'd eat his hat if you couldn't do what? Nice job on the PB. Get some slicks and you'll be running quicker than I was.

Congrats Ceasar. Was just talking with some others at a local Maxima meet yesterday about your exploits. Glad to see the 00VI is working well for your times!

When I was there in Feb and installed and tuned his EU for him, I said I'd eat my (shorts actually it was) if he couldn't run a 13.5.

Awesome Chris! Did you get my email? I suspected as much because I happened to see the timeslip database had changed before you posted this up.. lol

PS I hope I've convinced you about the dyno...

that bloody dyno was rubbish ? i paid 45 dollars to find out i have 180 hp to the wheels at 6500 rpms ?

man i always tell people my memory is bad but yeah it was a pair of shorts you said you would eat, lol !

my times ranged from 14.4 to 13.5 due to the track conditions being slippery. im still waiting for the perfect day. i had the cold weather this time, but no track prep and we did have a few sprinkles come down.

i was saying to dan that on a prepped track i can get 1.9 60 foots, but just couldnt do it out there at this meet, i even had some 2.5's.

but with that 2.10, you have to think a 1.99 could have possibly put me in the 13.4's considering i was 4/100ths of a second off with a 13.530.

still anytime you beat your pb its good. maxima won the fastest n/a category at the Nissan Meet. everyone always laughs and wonders how could that possibly happen ? VQ engines are just overlooked here.

dan i sent you a reply email, but i had a scarey pass. i missed a 3-4 shift and with no rev limiter i hear this squeal like sound for a second, i have no idea, i could have hit 8000 rpms ? i assumed it was over, (same thing happened to frosty in his maxima when he did a 3rd gear to 2nd gear shift) he had to leave his car at the track to be towed.

i have no idea why the chariot kept on going. i made another comfortable pass to see what she ran like, and then drove 306 miles home. so counting my lucky stars on that.

anyone know if its a good chance i trashed it ? or can the vq take a hit like that once and still be okay ??

Chris I just emailed you back but unless you actually went right into 2nd gear, I think all you did was grind 4th (is that what it was?)

If that's the case your engine is fine.

the two times ive witnessed a 3.0 take a dive with a 3-4 shift miss, 8k+ RPM, the motor was instantly toast.. sounded like rocks hitting a wall idle or revved progressively got worse until he changed the motor a week later.

what i heard was something from the engine for sure, like a metallic electric squeal scratch kinda noise for no longer than 1 second ?

it didnt sound like a grinding gear, thats all i can remember. i have the video im sure but you cant hear it, but you can see smoke coming out the muffler.

as long as this engine holds up i will run it, i do have a vq30de-k in the garage but would more than likely swap a 3.5L when the time comes. i hope im a long way off from that , lol ! really though, if this engine does crap out one day, it would probably take a good year to get back on the road in the chariot, cause the transmission is just about beat. so would need to do both at the same time.

If that 3.0 ever comes out you better keep it around as a table or something, she has been good to you Ceasar!

Congrats on the PB mate.

your motor is probably fine, I'm assuming you drove it home without any issues? I missed 4th three times in my 96 and that motor never missed a beat. MikeD missed it once and toasted the motor, so it's just luck of the draw I think, depends on how quickly you react.

Yea I set mine to 18 last time, and left rear at 32. I am going to try your setup at the track this weekend and see if it helps.

I'd almost say 10-10.5 is too low.. I don't even run my slicks down past 12-14 psi...

i thought they looked pretty low as well. theyre DR's? well if youre not getting traction until there i guess you have to. did you have problems at a lower pressure?

well the thing is we dont have test n tune here. so i never have any days to test things out. me and a friend both have these tyres (hoosier drag radials) 225/50/16, and his were 15's.

anyways we started out running 14 psi to 13 psi. i never ran anything to brag about 60 ft wise. Then one day at the drags he came over and said dude I just ran a 1.9 60 foot at 9.5 psi.

i looked at him like he was nuts ? 9.5 ? over in NZ these tyres are 390 each. so i thought why not give it a shot. 2.1's are lame... Sure enough when I dropped mine that low as well then the 2.0's started to show and 1.9's. ( my friend moved on to some sort of M/T and went from 1.9's to 1.7's ???)

i will be the first to say im still a drag racing newbie. with tyres, psi, launching, motors, weather, and all kinds of other things, I can see how it might take someone 10 years to have a real good understanding of everything.

I cant say for certain that I know if 9.5-10.5 lbs in these are the best psi, but so far ive gotten the best results. again without test n tune, you dont really have time to experiment and see what works, for all i know it could be track prep and 10.5 - 13.5 psi will net the same 60 foot.

in NZ drag racing is more of an event/sport so you get 2 or sometimes a few qualifying runs and off ya go into some crazy racing !

Very nice! I gotta get back out to the track! I haven't been in a long time. I'm still working on tuning my ECU. I have several more little things I've done to make my car faster too. I'm shooting to beat my PB sometime this winter.

spig hey man ! whats the latest with the swap ? yeah man i miss those days. We are slowly building a maxima crew here, great bunch of guys, but I miss those days too when those folks at the drag strip would wonder whay a line of nissan maxima are doing showing up ! we ate their lunch too !!

hey spig i had the weather but the track was bad, 13.4 could have been possible, very happy, as they say here in new zealand im stoked !!

im sure as our drag season starts the temps will go back up and my chances will be pretty slim to match this time.

take it easy spig

I haven't done much work on my car since we talked last. I wired in a torque converter lockup switch and plan to do a little more weight reduction soon. Also, I have to dyno tune several things to squeeze out that extra single HP. I haven't had time with running Nissan Works.
