'97 SE, 5sp, 63k, no engine mods. Been searching the forum archives, getting ideas.

I don't race, but I like performance. I don't want to sacrifice too much in driveability and longevity, either. Finally have a FSTB on the way.

Ok, clutch. It sounds like an ACT is a good choice - which one is best for my wants and where do you suggest buying it? Will it work well with a resurfaced or new OEM flywheel? Will it drive more smoothly than stock, and how would you say the feel compares?

STS - I'm more interested in improving the tactile feel of hitting each gear, so that there's a nice grooved path from gear to gear with a little snap. Will this mod do it, and if so, which aftermarket STS do you recommend.

Thanks to all.

Forgive a few questions

I see no one has replyed as yet. So have you found your ATC clutch? What does ATC stand for and how much do the go for?

Last one - What's a STS?

I started another thread in .general about the clutches and got a response there. I decided to buy an ACT stage 2 (Advanced Clutch Technology kit with heavy-duty pressure plate and modified street disc). See http://www.advancedclutch.com for info.

The STS means short throw shifter, and I haven't made any decision there yet or received any good info. Maybe later - it seems like a thread can be easily ignored for no reason.

Thanks for the reply. Is you clutch choice a good clutch for a newbie to 5spds?

Sure. It will simply have a stiffer feel in the pedal and greater torque capacity. I'm also hoping it will withstand daily driving with greater ease and smoothness, which the Nissan clutches don't consistently do. Just watch out: even though it's a bolt-in replacement for the Nissan clutch, dealers naturally won't touch it (potential warranty issues, obviously), and many other repair shops won't either (they want to sell you their parts for more profit, or avoid aftermarket parts simply because of experiences with cheap stuff). I plan to install it myself in a friend's garage by following some instructions/picture I've seen on the web and also either a Chilton or Haynes manual, and I'll have the flywheel checked out at a local transmission shop - which could save a few hundred dollars in labor charges.
