So what would you have to do to get an auto climate to run in a GXE?

you have to get all of the wiring from the auto and the relays and the harness im not sure of the exact names but it costs way to much just to havea auto climate control

Haha yea you can do a swap....you need the 4 sensors and a shatload of wiring needs to be done...but it has been performed successfully. I think fanaticrockford has done it, might want to PM him.

For auto climate, A32 has these items:

Sun load sensor, located on the defrost vent
Ambient temp sensor, in the nose near the hood latch
Cabin temp sensor, in the auto climate control panel
A/C temp sensor, in the evaporator box after (left of) the evaporator
Auto Amplifier board, in the metal box below the ash tray
A/C auto climate control box (on the dash)
Wiring harness for connection.

Kevlo had posted something about this ... and needing 4 sensors. It is an expensive venture and can be done ... but as mentioned, SE FTMFW!!!!! I was looking into doing this too ... but have since decided its just not worth it right now.

Cheers!

Hey 99BlackMaxMS:

How can I find fanaticrockford for the successful automatic climate control swap from a manual? I tried to do a user search; either I am limited to maxima.org's features or that feature is prohibited.

SVI30: When You mentioned the "Auto Amplifier board, in the metal box below the ash tray", do you mean the black box or the silver box below that?

I am new to this site, anyone's help would be appreciated.

Once you get 15 posts you can PM him and ask him for all the details and parts needed for the swap. Basically there are 4 sensors that you need to wire up and connect and most people don't bother because there is a lot of intense wiring needed. Earn your 15 posts and search using the Free Search to look up more information on this.

Welcome.

Thanks for the reply 99blackMaxMS. I didn't know about earning the 15 posts.

I am almost successful in the auto-climate control swap. I have a 96Max SE that came stock with the manual ac.

What I've done so far:
Successfully swapped out the main wiring harness(located under the dash) from an I30 donor. For this, I removed the dash.
This harness allowed me to connect the:
Auto climate control unit from the I30
Sun load sensor, located on the defrost vent from I30
Ambient temp sensor, in the nose near the hood latch (plug pr-existed in the '96 maxima)
A/C temp sensor, in the evaporator box (had to take this from the i30/easily installed)
A black box that sits under the stereo(manual ac only had 2 plugs connecting from the harness, automatic has 2 additional plug necessary that runs to the auto climate control.) For this, I used the black box from the i30

Although everything plugs in, the climate control unit functions and lights up / the fan speed modes work perfectly, the heater works but no cold air. Also paid a shop to do the necessary discharge/recharge R134/ coolant and still no cold air.$130

I have read all the suggestions for diagnosing the AC, but before the idea of replacing a compressor or expansion valve, ect..., I wanted to make sure the swap I am doing has actually been successful for someone else.
