would wider tires slow ur car down?
i have 245/45/17's on stock rim's enough with the flaming i know the risks ok! in a straight line my car feels slow as **** i dont know what the problem is..... could it be the increased area of the tire that is gripping the road so my car is having to work harder? i went to commerce last fri and ran constant 16.2's what is the deal? look at my sig for my mods i should be low 15's .........but the handling on the other part with the new tires is great easily take highway turns the i could only take at 90 with my old tires at 110 and taht without the rea sway bar and strut tower brace which will be here tomorrow the 19th i cant wait..... could someone please tell me if that makes any sence at all about the tire area and my car being slow thanks!

it's summer now so it's extra HOT out - your car will make less horsepower the hotter it is. I remember there was a thread here a week or so ago where a bunch of guys went to the track and were getting "crap" times all day too - all because it was like 90F out.

i do realize that the tires are heavier and that it is summer but before i bought these tires i ran 14.6-14.9's now im running 15.7-15.9 on g-tech would it slow me down a full second....... in the matter of gettin wider tires u can get me on the straight aways but in the twisties i will hand u ur *** esp today bc when i get home my shipment to complete my rear suspension will be waiting at my door!! RSB and RSTB........... the only suspension mod after that will be koni 5-way adjustables! but my tires r making me wonder! could 2 sizes bigger than stock slow u dont that much anyone have an answer? thanks

if I can explain it so you'll understand.
There are two factors that are in play here.
first there is the fact that you have a wider tire with more rubber, which creates rolling resistance and drag, both which will slow you down at any speed.
Second- There is wheight, when you compare a 15" diameter rim and tire combination to a 18" rim with low profile tires. (assuming that they are both the same overall diameter, and assuming that you bought very expensive and super light 18" rims, which would make them weigh the same as the 15" rim/tire package)
When you try to roll the tire (as in accelerate) it will take more power to spin the 18's than it would the 15's, but they are the same weight you say!... well if you look at the 18's.. most of the weight is further out from the center of the rim, thus requiring more energy to get them to roll. (imagine trying to spin your whole arm in circles with a wrist weight, like those for working out.. you'll feel a difference ther further out on your arm it is when you spin your arm like a wind mill)
Anyway, to the point. The more weight that you put on the outside of your rim/tire combination the more HP you'll need to keep going the same speed. or the slower you'll go. And adding wider tires with more rubber(weight) will slow you down......whew!!!!

I think you should put back the stock size tires and when you get the RSTB,RSB you'll feel the same way as you were with the 245's. Sometimes wide tires don't do good as thiner ones. The wider isn't all the time the better
