The parking brake on my '04 SE seems to be a little sticky, I don't think it's disengaging all the way. It feels like the back wheels are dragging. I tried to take off the wheels and take a look but the rear brake setup seems way different than my old '97 Max. Is there a way easily fix or adjust this? Anyone else have this issue?

 

The only thing that I know you can adjust is in the rear calipers, when you take the wheels off there should be a rubber thing covering up a hole in the rotors-take that out and rotate the wheel to line up the parking brake adjuster. After you do that, try loosening it a little,

Jack both rear wheels up on jack stands and remove the parking brake, since the car is front wheel drive you should be able to spin the rear tires with your hand fairly easy, If they don't turn several revolutions with a good pull on the tire (i.e. less than 1 full turn), then yes you may have a rear e-brake issue.

Did you have recent brake work, if not you may need service work to adjust or repair the cable or handle. Just my opinion...

 

It probably doesn't mean too much, but my altima (L31) has the same problem. It came from the salt belt, and it rusty as **** the last time I did the rear brakes. There seemed to be no way of restoring what damage was incurred besides replacing the whole assembly.

 

Like Chern said, turn the wheels for friction.

You will probably need to remove each rear wheel and open up the parking assembly and CLEAN IT UP. You will see a shoe inside the hub of the disk. That's the parking brake. There is an adjustment wheel inside the hub to remove the excess slack in the e-brake. While you have all this open, check the brake pads thickness.
