4th Gen Oil light

Noticed my oil light today. Never had that happen on any car I've owned, but then again, I've never kept a car past 150k, so that said here's my question:

Outside of the obvious of course, is there anything else a flickering oil light might imply? Im currently at 246k. At this stage, I make it a point to explore any issue that arrises as thoroughly as possible.

Comments appreciated!

Does it flicker while driving, come on solid while driving, flicker on startup, more details needed.

EDIT: BTW, you'll get more exposure in the 4th gen forum vs general.

Flickering oil light might mean low oil pressure. OR a bad oil pressure sending unit, (5$).

I just noticed it today so Im not sure if its staying on longer than what I've seen, but what I've seen is more of a split second sort of flash. It does this arbirtrarily while the car is running. There is no systematic pattern to it and it doesn't flicker that often. A less observant individual than myself probably wouldn't even notice it. At this point, I can't say that it flickers more when Im driving or at a stand still.

Is there a way to check this myself?

Works for me. Sounds like something that may go bad eventually anyway, if it isn't the problem now.

Thanks!

Werd, 1st thing that came to mind was "did you check the level?" but no mention of that in the thread.

BTW, engine doesn't perform like it day on day 1, do you replace it all? I hope not. Do a diagnostic check before replacing parts.

Thurznight: For clarification the comment "Outside of the obvious of course" in my original post speaks exactly to what you and EnervinE have recommended. I thought it was a no brainer and chose not to elaborate further. I honestly thought EnervinE's comment was simply a joking jest at "The obvious" and thus the emoticon, but then I receive your comment. So before I receive more of the same, please note:

Today is the first I've even noticed the light. I parked and went to work, where I sit currently and will be until about 6pm'ish today. Im sure no one would automatically assume this, but again, for clarification I had no time to check the oil and I probably won't do it until I get home. This thread was more of a preliminary inquiry if anything of the implications behind a flickering oil light.

My car is up there in mileage, so as stated previously I'd gladly change a inexpensive part at this stage of the game, whether it turned out to be the problem or not.

Hope this clears things up.
