98 Maxima rear brake

I am looking for a step by step for changing rear rotors for my max.

I watched somebody changing his front brakes on a non-Maxima, and he said that changing/servincing the rear pads and calipers is a little different as a special tool is require to release the caliper.

Is this true? and there is a step by stepper "how-to" with pictures, for the rears?

For those looking for the fronts here is the excellent link:

you need to turn the piston in order for there to be room room for the new pads. This can be done using a pair of needlenose pliers. Or you can do it the correct way and go to autozone and buy the piston ratchet extension. It lookslike a box kindof. it's only about $9 and will make the job much easier.

yeah go to autozone or some sort of automotive store to get it. Before I knew about turning the rear piston back in, I went through two c-clamps

Now the Haines manual which I already own points out on 1995 and later maximas there is a retaining spring over the pads. I see none on front and rear.

No sweat?

Am changing regardless as outside below min thickness but the outside pad does have two tiny vertical fractures. So whether used or almost new, if so change without question, right?

You need a turning piston key. They are teh suck to find but VIP Auto has a little crappy one u put on a rachet. It gets the job done though...

One small thing, but the stupidest question is the one you never ask.

I changed the front brake pads. On the second wheel I noticed one pin, the bottom one was different than the other. It was ribbed at the end. I prompting put this one back in the lower spot.

But the first wheel, I didn't check the pins. Any harm is the "ribbed" is in the upper spot?

Just being safe.
