00 PS axle in 5spd swap

Im having a bad grinding in noise in each gear on decel and and low rpms. At 1st i thought it was the bearings going bad but now im starting to think its something with the axles. It also sounds like its coming from the axles.

So 1 of my questions are....

Is the 00-01 5spd axle the same as the 95-99 axle? Because Im thinking that maybe either the pass. side or driver side is in too far or too long

Also, with the car in neutral and the clutch out, I can hear a weird "scrapping" noise coming from the bellhousing i believe. Once i press the clutch in and let it back out, the sound go's away. what could that be?

and the last question,
Does anyone know the part number for the bolt that holds the support rod bracket to the block?( FYI, it's two bolts, one holds the bracket to the trans, one holds it to the block)

Thanks for any info, my car is down now due too a heat soaked clutch( brand new 5th gen clutch with 700miles ) The inpt shaft seal went bad and leaked gear oil into the bellhousing FTL!!

the support rod you are talking about is the rod that is not the shifting rod but the other one that holds the shifter thing right?

If I remember correctly the two bolts, bolts up to the trans only.

I just remembered to put it back in, so I really didn't notice anything.

I know that one bolt is longer than the other one.

Maybe one bolt is longer than the other one because as Ghostmax said one bolts through the block to the trans.

so would that noise be because of the bearings going bad or inproper install/wrong axle?

That sounds like tranny input shaft bearings. It's not surprising that you'd have a seal leak too.

yep, its leaking gear oil past the seal. So i take it the grinding noise is the bearings and NOT the axles?
