How much do you think my car is worth?

Well, this car may not be an ideal enthusiast's car given it's auto.... but how much do you think I should ask? I know how much KBB & Edmunds says.... but it's quite tough to assess the crowd's opinion on the condition of the car. Comparing the condition found in Craigslist, it seems mine is in a lot better condition.

It's '96, one owner, clean title, no rust (CA car except the 1st year of her life), loaded, no leak, no engine/mechanical/electronics issues (all are 100% working), fresh oil, new front brakes. 130K mostly highways.

Conditions? Just check tons of pics in the link below....

If a reader is interested, please PM me and we'll talk...

It's worth an easy $3500. One owner car with low miles. Fully loaded SE and in great condition other then those few flaws. There not ging to make a difference.

dude, its a ca. car, its extremley clean inside and out. i'd ask 5,000 in a heartbeat in that condition. christ, mines got 166,000 and i'd ask at least that, but i did some mods like the stereo and headlights and new suspension as well. those guys must work for the sales department in their area's to say that price to you. shoot high on price and you'll be happier when you sell her and loose a few hundred. always worked for me.

$5k seems a bit steep. I'd ask for $4500 but expect to get ~$4k.

Thanks for the replies guys.... now I could see why Craigslist's price has such a wide range ($3K to $6K)

I'd guess I'll try shooting high for couple weeks.... and then lower the price if no one takes it.

FYI, a friend of mine gave me an offer for $4K (and he's kind of cheap ) but he's OK w/ me trying to get more and using him as a back-up. We'll see....

Just keep the comments coming...

Keep the offer of 4k on the table, but like Joe said ... fully loaded SE, clean, cali car! ... I'd ask 5k and not take less than 4k. Otherwise ... drive it till it dies (which will be after your grandchildren have the car for about 20 years). hehehehe

Why are you selling it anyway ... better be to get a newer Max!

haha.... yeah, this maxima is the car I've ever owned the longest. 11 years!!! Wow.... but over the course of 11 years, I only recall 1, yes ONE, visit to the dealer/shop for other than maintenance!!! The front passenger leather seat was ripped after owning the car for like 3-4 months. I got it replaced.

So far other than the maintenance, I only replaced:
- headlight bulbs (2x)
- right foglight (1x)
- battery (1x at around 70-80K)
- DC outlet fuse (2x)
- CV joints (at around 100K)
- tires (2x - one at around 60K and one at around 120K)
- brakes (2x front; 1x rear... the last time I had the car serviced, the tech told me the rear still has plenty of pads & rotors)

That's it.... That's how good this maxima is mechanical wise. No CEL ever, no nothing. Never fail on me, nothing... Just perfect!

So why selling? I've been working from home for the past 2-3 years and don't see any change any time soon... my wife's office is only 6 miles away... so at any time of the day, there are likely 2 cars sitting doing nothing. My wife is now driving her bimmer more often than the maxima. And during the weekend, 99% of the time I drive my toy car So the maxima is getting less and less driven, and I thought someone should be able to have a better use of this car.

So no hurry.... I'll just wait for the right buyer buying at the right price.

Keep the comments coming....

Yea if you're not in a rush I'd just sit tight and wait for someone who just falls for it. Maybe pricing at $5k is a better idea. If you were a manual I might even have taken a peek!

bought my g/f's 96 with 170k on it for 2,300.
bought my 98 with 247k on it for 2,000. original owner great shape.

youre talking about a average commuter car thats over 10 years old with average miles. it isnt gonna be worth close what you can get a 5th gen for.

XJinCT:

I partially agree w/ you... especially in areas w/ some snow... I used to live in MN... and I hardly saw any 10+years cars w/o any rust around the fenders or on undercarriage.

This car is old.... the 5th gen is also getting old. I think the price is more gauged against the condition and mileage. The condition of this car can be said way above average. The mileage... well, it depends on which part of country are you.... for CA, it's a little less than 15K/year average (130K/11 = 11.8K a year). And FYI, a good 3rd gen over here is still selling around $3K. So for sure this car is worth over $3.5K.

Anyway.... don't mean to argue over something useless.... just want to give you my reasoning.

Wish my car was in that kind of condition. I'd ask 4500 for it and probably get a buyer no problem. I've seen worse maximas in my area sell for 4800(private dealers). But that's just my region, not sure about cali...

Yep, it looks good... no leak, up-to-date maintenance.... no issue whatsoever.

Thanks for everyone's comments.... really appreciate it. Will either put it in classifieds forum in couple days after I've decided whether or not I want to give this car to my aunt. I feel some "charity" feeling today

I'll gladly become your favorite charity if you'll let me! lol

G'luck with what ever ya do ... you have a great car from the sounds of it and it should go to someone who will take just as good of care of it as you have!

Cheers!

hello

i guess since i am new i cannot post my own threads.

a friend of mine with a 1995 maxima says he ran a 12.9

he is completely stock with exception of intake and exhuast.

i looked the car up and stock it should run 15.7 with the 5 speed.

it had factory motor mounts in place as well as throtlebody ect..

all present is exhaust and a short ram.

i am in the 13's currently and have owned a 12 second car, and from what i have seen, a maxima with intake and exhaust is not one.

forced induction, nasty build!! hell yeah a maxima will hit twelves, ive seen that some members here are in the 9s!! but just intake and exhaust im seriously doubting that.

any info would help, thanks alot.

Keith-

(i own a 2004 ion redline, 60lb injectors, 2.7 pully, gm eh manifold, hp tuners, diamond pistons, AEM intake, b woodys SMM, B+M shifter,Titanium Retainers, 272 Grind Camshafts with lifter shims installed, ported head with Ferrea Dual Coil Valve Springs) im running consistant 13.6's with street tires and a VERY conservitive tune)

everything i know, i owe to car forums, so i figured id sign up here and see what the deal is on the 95 maxima. thanks alot guys

And why do you think my thread is the right place to post this question? j/k

I think your friend is smoking crack.... No, I don't think stock Maxima (even w/ 3.5L engine, exhaust & intake) could break 13's, let alone break 12's.

You're right.... stock, healthy maxima should be mid to high 15's. So to shave 2 seconds in 1/4, it'll take more than exhaust and intake.

You probably shouldn't be friends with this character anymore. That or I want to take some runs at your local track and save the timeslip. I figure my autotragic + y-pipe's good for 13s there...

Oh I have an idea.... go verify yourself.... make sure he doesn't have any other mods, especially some juice, and ask for a race.... bet 5g or whatever.... you should get extra $$$ for more mods. LOL.

Or.... send him over to the other coast.... let me handle him w/ my grocery getter.

Really???? If that's the case, I'll sell it to you for 4.5K and you could bring it there and sell it for 6g. And both of us will be very very happy....

Or find me a buyer for it.... anything above $4.5K will be yours.

And I'm serious....

Zoink, when I sold my 97 SE in April, which btw was just like yours except mine had cloth interior, was a 5 speed, had a budget Y pipe, manual a/c, non heated seats, I put 15in steelies on it (it came with 16in 5 stars) I also had clear corners, smoked tails and a 6 pack Bose CD radio from an 03 Pathfinder. I asked $5k for it and sold it for $4700, btw I also had 148k miles on it as well. So I would ask for at least $4500 and sell it for no less than $4000.

just bought a fully loaded 96 GLE for 3600 (and i thought it was a steal). the engine has 141k on it with no clacks or other noises coming from it. leather, cd, sunroof, power everything, etc. etc. id say you should aim for 4, meaning you ask for 4200 or 4300 and be willing to negotiate.

congrats on selling it. I've found how much you can get for it depends on how long you can sit on it. I sold my Jimmy and my Camry at my asking price just by letting them sit long enough... I priced high expecting to come down, but then the right buyer came by and didn't even try to haggle the price...

Yeah, it was a pleasant surprise also to me.... looking at how many people calling but I didn't answer (30+... and no, I'm not kidding), it seems I priced the car right.

I just didn't want to bother showing the car to anyone knowing that $5200 was good enough... or was it? It could be the 1st day of school... so students are looking for a car.

A dealership will offer you $1000 for a '96 w/ over 100k. Private selling would be much more profitable. Maybe $3k.

I just traded in a '98 integra with 106k miles in fair condition, and they started at $1500 and gave me $2500.

I think it's worth the effort to try and sell privately.
