Replaced your radiator/heater hoses?

Have you replaced them because the original ones were old, or sprung a leak?

The rad hoses don't look too hard (and one's a bit crunchy when I squeeze it), but the heater hoses look tougher, so no need to replace them unless they're subject to failure.

Mileage on the car ??

Usually its not a huge deal to change the Radiator Hoses and not to expensive either.
Heater hoses usually dont need to be changed.

Eventhough mine were not bad, I replaced them as my car had some good miles on it. Easy to do, and do not cost that much.

[QUOTE=matty]Mileage on the car ??

Got 125K on car/original hoses now.

Guess the heater hoses don't need replacing now because they deteriorate only when the heater is on? I thought maybe the engine heat would kill them, but maybe not. It's sure a lot better rubber than they used back in my old Datsun days!

I would say it's time to change them.

If they are crunchy, definitely change them. Why wait till your on the side of a road somewhere. A little preventive maintenance goes a long way.

see, now there is someone with logic that makes SENSE.^^

One of my heater hoses cracked and spewed fluid all over my engine bay, and the car over heated at like 2 AM in the morning when I was heading home. Do you still want to take the chance after hearing that?

coolant flows through the heater core whether your using the heater or not...

I had the water pump go bad after about 246k.. I replaced that and the radiator , because it had a crack in the top plastic tank. Soooo.. I replaced both rad. hoses, belts, thermostat housing.. etc. Not worth trying to be cheap on the cooling system..

Its also good to replace the bypass hose. Its on the engine block driver side behind the radiator fans.

i saw some steam coming from that area, and noticed that hose was swollen and about to explode. I didn't know what it was called, though, so thanks for that info. guy @ autozone gave me a hose that worked, but is slightly too narrow. going to get the correct one probably this weekend now that i know what to ask for.
