VE Died on Hwy, Fuel pump cover to blame

AS i was driving to work last week, My maxima all of a sudden just bogged down and quit on me. I was around 35 mph and the revs just kept dropping, kept down shifting to keep the revs up and no avail.It almost like it just died of fuel starvation( which was the case)

I went ahead and ordered the walbro 255hlp fuel pomp. After a few days waiting on the replacement, my mechanic installed the new one. Only after takeing the cover of the gas tank off he noticed that the whole metal area is rusted and corroded. the picture below is from MyGreenMax post on installing the filter on his max. If you look closely there are four dots on the metal cap. Now it seems that the plastic shielding for the lack of description has came apart. Now it seems that there is resistance from the power wire going and grounding on the metal gas cap. Now the question, where can I get another plate that is pictured below.

Any ideas if the VE and VG are interchangeable.?? I need a quick resolution to my ordeal. Any ideal the what part number it may be? anyone got one laying around??

Also my mechanic tested the resistance of the connector cables that attached to the fuel pump housing. 11~12volts coming in and the power connection resisting going into the cap pictured has almost 0 volts.

Thanks for any input.

BTW on a side note lately i have been feeling sluggish acceleration. I replaced the spark plugs with new one and it help, but could a dying fuel pump also contribute to the sluggish performance, I hope when everything is all done and settled my max would get back her speedy spirit like she used to have....

Take a trip to your local junkyard for a replacement pump/housing,or get one from one of the guys parting out their maximas here in the classifieds.

link to classifieds--> http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=62

I know the ve/vg fuel pumps are different,not sure about the housings,to be safe get a ve pump housing.

the Walbro pump itself is the same for many/most cars. the only difference is the mounting kit that comes with it.

FAST shows the VE/VG pumps and brackets and gauge sending units (the part that's broken on yours) to be different, but I don't relaly think there's much differnce in them.

either way, the sending unit is something like $200 from the dealer. go to a junkyard and pick up a used one from them.

There are lots of VEs in junkyards. just try finding a 5 spd or an engine...
the rest of the car is easy.
