Question for auto climate control owners
Question for auto climate control owners
I have recieved all of the parts needed for the conversion, but i'm not sure whether or not i'm going to regret doing it. I owned a Canadian VE-5 that had auto climate control, but I really didn't like much about it besides the digital display. Everytime I started up the car, the thing would blow full blast. From what I understand, that is not normal, but the problem is fixable. What i'm concerned about is the fact that it would always start in auto mode as well, when I got in the car i'd have to hit the "econ" button or "off" because I like to control the temp myself and don't like the fact that the A/C could come on automatically and affect performance and gas mileage.
I just want to know whether or not it's normal for it to start in auto mode regardless of what the settings were last time the car was used. I don't want to have to hit buttons on the unit everytime I get in the car and go. I would think it should remember all settings (temp, mode, auto, econ and blower speed) should it?

Man I cant remember but it "think" if you leave it on econ it will be on econ when you start it. I am not sure though because its been so long since I had it...I am sure those that have it will chime in.
Well if you got the parts for the convertion, you should have a dial bottom which you can control the temp with, and the fan speed bottom too, besides the eco, auto, off. If you don't want to get blown when you turn the car on, just press off before u turn the actual car off, that way next time at ignition it will be off, then if u want the a/c running just put auto and it will start, with the dial bottom you control the temp u desire and the fan's speed, actually is really simple. or leave in auto and it will set desired temp on tis own
I hope it was helpfull.

Mine "remembers" the last setting. After turning the car off, and coming back it will go back to what ever it was doing when I shut it off. I've never had it do it's own thing as you speak, I'd say maybe there is some constant 12 volt line that is maybe not hooked up properly so it looses its memory?? Just a shot in the dark there, check your FSM wiring for a 12 volt constant to it.
I have auto climate and personal like it a lot. It does remember what fan speed and temp you had it set on but it does not remember if you have it on cabin air or outside air, it defaults to outside air.
Right on, thanks for the reassurance everyone.. I figured the controls in my CDN 92 were buggy. On top of restarting in auto @ speed 4, the door motor was dead or had bad wiring so I wasn't even able to adjust the temp. That car was suspect. Had signs it had been flooded. Previous owner told me he had to replace the ecu. Also the gas, brake, clutch pedal mounts were rusted
mine is always off unless i push the auto button. i never turn my car off with the a/c still blowing. if i do turn it off with the a/c still blowing then it will come back on but the fan speeds starts off at 1 and works its way up to 4. but i usually drive with the windows down only if its extremely hot then i use it. its pretty hard to find ACC units in 3rd gens down here. usually i see more of the MCC than ACC. out of the 3rd gen owners i've met in the past, im the only one with ACC and they always ask me if i can convert theirs to ACC.
I've been busy with this shiot all weekend and it turned out to be a little more work than I anticipated
The conversion is NEARLY complete. But I have a couple issues:
1-Only fan speed 4 works, NOT 1,2 or 3. I'm thinking it's the fan control amp. I've tried swapped two seperate fan control amps and get the same result. I also have two auto amps, but one's display is dead (soldering several joints didn't work), although when it's connected it still seems to work but I still don't get fan speeds 1-3 using either fan control amp. All my wiring is correct, I triple checked continuity of all harness pins and their destinations. I guess I have two bad fan control amps or two bad auto amps. I also swapped the blower hi relay and same deal.
2-How do you get the A/C to kick in with this sucker? It's raining today and getting a reading of 67 degrees outside. Does the ambient sensor have to read a minimum temp for the a/c compressor to turn on? Is it also normal that I can't set the desired temp less than 65? Also, the air mix door motor only moves within the mid 60s and never goes to max cold except for in diagnostic mode. I can make a video if someone needs to understand what i'm talking about. Anyway, when at 65 it feels like it should if the manual slider were moved all the way to the blue (outside temp) and at 80 it feels like it should if it were moved all the way to the red, so it's all hooked up correctly. I'm just trying to figure out what it takes to get the a/c to turn on. On a hot day, outside temp won't cut it.
The good thing is, I completed all the wiring without choping but one stock harness (fresh air illumination
) So if I need to, I can switch to manual relatively easilly. I went to the junkyard and snipped every connector I needed for the custom harness and just wrapped the manual connectors with foam or small piece of speaker carpet to keep from banging around or shorting out (unlikely). Of course after all this work, the last thing I want to do is go back to manual, but if I need to, it's not too hard.
Harness before I taped it all up and installed it.

Lol why is there a little "NISSAN" above the vent? In case you forget?
Looks nice though, if I find a parts car with ACC I'll probably convert my poor waterboarded maxima. I'll find out later today.

the temperature set range is from 65 to 85. the ac compressor should run (I think) when you use the defogger button (the one under the AUTO button).
When I was messing with my radio, I left the cabin air temperature sensor unplugged and it blew either hot air (if in economy mode) or cold air (if in auto mode) without regulating the temperature. The temperature sensor is behind the little grill to the left of the radio.
fan speed 4 - i think the amplifier (the one that is in the ducts with the squirel cage) is different between auto and manual systems. The auto climate one has a proprietary Darlington driver transistor to make speeds 1 to 3 where the amplifier for the manual climate system uses resistors.
Also, the ACC system has a "sunlight" sensor that is mounted in the passenger side defroster vent. Did you get that in the kit. I don't know what would happen if that was bad or missing.

here is a link to Craig Brace's web page.
He has done a lot of work and documented it for us. Excellent stuff.
go to http://www.geocities.com/craigbrace/ and click on the "HOW TO" link at the top. Auto climate control is the first one.

i have the acc unit, just havent got around to installing it in he past 2 years.......sold it on ebay a long time ago....got it back a week later, the guy shipped it back saying it didn't work. (?) no idea but a week from me shipping, i got it back, and that doesnt seem like enough time to install and test.
