Ive noticed that sometimes my tranny lets me into gear quickly and other times I really have to force it like I am about to break the shifter. This mostly happens in 1st and and 5th. Just about every time I am on a slight incline it wont let me into first so I have to go into 2nd and going up a hill in 2nd isnt the greatest . Anyone have idea why it lets me in somtimes and other times it doesnt? Could my linkage be the cause or maybe even my shifter bushing? I had to fab up a bushing for the shifter because the rubber was broken so I made a little wood piece and stuck it in between the metal and stuck a bolt though to hold up the shifter.

 

The wood bushing may be causing the linkage to bind up.

 

could be the ghetto fix, but I'm going to bet it's your input shaft bearings.

when the bearing gets bad enough, the cage around the ball bearings comes apart in pieces and gravity makes it fall down into the shift linkage since its the lowest part of the tranny.

this is why it happens randomly-- sometimes the piece is there, others its now. get the car moving and the oil starts flowing around and the pieces move out of the linkage area. stop at a light and they settle back down there.

nForce, you know, based on what matt said, maybe you lost another bearing (which would explain the noise on thatother thread), and those ***** and pieces are clogging up your shifter linkages. How 'bout dem apples?

I think the tranny oil isnt lubing the inside up properly. If I drive the car hard it shifts better and the sound goes away. But driving it hard means shifts of 4k or better. Could this be a theory? I have that cheapy GL-4 that napa sells the StarLube stuff in it..
I hope this car can last me little longer. I am already looking at a Audi S4 as a replacement if this was to die soon.

 

OK you all can me
I havent checked my clutch fluid in while and noticed I was OUT! This would explain why I could'nt shift into gear correctly and also means there is a leak in the lines some were that I cant see. so looks like ill have to monitor now my brake fluid and clutch fluid since both leak their self dry. At least I always have clean fresh fluid

 

occasionaly when i'm accelerating down the on ramp i'll stay in 3rd till about 80 and then shoot for 5th but it tends to grind everynow and then so i have to go from 4th then to fifth? any ideas?

 

worn synchros. deal with it or rebuild the tranny for $1000.
