Newbie With Brakes

Just got some brembo cross drilled, slotted rotors for my fronts. Any tips on changing them? Or any guides on how to change them? I looked through the 4the gen FAQ's already but didnt load probably for me. I heard you have to wipe down the rotors before you install them on your car to cut the grease or some sort off layer from the factory on the rotor is this true? If so brake cleaner is the best to use correct? Any input i would really apperiate thanks in advance

Are you changing the pads too?

Make sure you bed them properly. There was a post on this a few days ago...

Yes use brake cleaner and a clean rag.

pads are fairly new about a month ago less then 500 miles rotors look kinda beat up.... Do you have to bleed them?

If all your changing is the rotors, then clean them down, take off(no need to disconnect the brake line) the calipers and use hangers to hang it from the suspension springs. Take off the caliper bracket, note...you are not disconnecting the brake line, just set the stuff off to the side. Take off the old rotors and put the new ones on, use a little anti-seize compound on the hub part to make removal next time(in like 5-6 years) very easy. Put everything back in reverse order. Rear can be a PITA, make sure to disconnect the handbrake line. This should only take about an hour for all four wheels. As long as you dont disconnect the brake line you have no reason to bleed the brakes. I use those metal hangers, just use wire clippers to cut one and bend it to a hook, this really help keep the caliper out of the way while removing the caliper bracket and rotor.

You should not have to bleed them. I would however, crack the bleeder open when pushing back the pistons. This keeps you from pushing dirty fluid backward through the system possibly damaging the master cylinder and or ABS modulator pump. But, thats just me. I would also get the hardwear kit and a set of good pads. You spent some money on those Brembo rotors, why cheap out now. DO IT RIGHT...DO IT ONCE. The rotor is coated with cosmaleen. Comes off with brake clean.

yea our right probably gonna tackle this sometime this week. The kid before me replaced the pads with hawks and there still pretty much new.. Guess im gonna bleed the lines and order some SS brake lines while im at it... Maybe paint the claipers what color do you think would look nice on a white car? I was thinkin black??

Depends on the whole scheme of the car, also if you have engine components painted. I did mine gold on my champeigne SE, but for white i'd say do it white, black, or red(only if you have red engine bay goodies and wire looms). Me personally...if the car were 100% stock, i'd go white, but thats because i hat contrasting colors.

i didnt have to break mine in at all. xdrilled brembos with pbr delux organic. no noise at all and way better stopping power plus no break dust.
