gauging interest: 3rd gen A/T tiptronic system

something Aaron92SE mentioned to me about the 4th gen's Shift_Fast mod has caught my attention. What if I could find a way to use +/- buttons to manually control the solenoids, rather than flipping the A switch and B switch in this pattern 1st = A&B, 2nd = B, 3rd = -, 4th = A. So you can see that would be kinda dumb having to flip those switches. So I want to make a straight-up +/- system, and I think i can find a way to do it.

But what i need from you guys, is to know at what price you would consider this a good mod, if I chose to make these and sell them to you guys, and also...'

i need relays. lots and lots of them, to wiggle my way from pre-design to prototype. black, blue/green, brown, gray... i just need a ton of relays, so i can make the most efficient system possible for the shifter. So if you guys, out of the goodness of your hearts, can PM me if you have some relays (and even relay sockets? like from that relay panel up in front of the battery) that you can send, that would be awesome.

will it work with my 5 speed?

no? Huh bummer. Guess I'm stuck with a shifter then :P

well of course. but not all of us are so fortunate as to have a 5spd, or have the funds/skills to do a swap. Besides eventually there will be no more 5spd trannys to buy, since they will have all been bought already. And some people like automatics most of the time, but would like manual control some of the time too.

personally, I'd kill for a straight-up 5spd... but I can't afford to swap, and that's that, for now.

If you can do it sounds pretty awesome, keep us posted.

well i can't do it without you guys' help. i needs sum relayzzzzz. I have to create a relay-based conditional switching system, which can be tough.

I would suggest a relay only based thing is not the answer.

If you are serious about your venture you should be looking at PLCs (programmable logic controllers) ..................... and I would certainly use solid state switching (VFet/CMOS) as drivers iso relays too.

Replacing that TCU is going to be way more involved than simple "switching of conditions" .............................. I am sure there are analogue inputs/outputs involved too and I wish you best of luck trying to reverse engineer the TCU functionality from funky (and guaranteed incomplete) FSM info

i'm not removing nor disabling the TCU. just 2 wires from it, and even then, only while in manual-mode. the rest will stay in effect, including all sensor inputs, and line pressure outputs, etc etc. So you can switch back to full-auto at any time.

OK - sorry for misunderstanding then.

In that case look at stepper relays - I am sure you can find a single unit to do all of those simple selections from either Schlumberger and/or Omron.

if upon delving deeper in your odyssey, and find you still require the assistance of said relays, let me know and i can ship the ones out of the junker with the rest of your stuff

on a second note, i've always thought of running a game controller instead of steering wheel......

"here f*** it, you drive." :::hand controller to passenger:::

and in reality, as long as you have a fast motor system in the steering column, and electronic fuel/brake control....then you've got a starting point, but good luck with the authorities.

(FTW, this isn't an actual consideration of mine, but think of how cool it would be )

No more gauging interest threads unless you are a maxima.org sponsor.
