15.6 @ 90 (haha?)

Went to Pittsburgh Raceway Park last night. Humidity was so-so, coldest part of the night got down into the high 70's. Had ~3/4 of a tank of gas, back seat out, trunk empty, etc. (basic track weight reduction). Had the front tires aired down to about 26 PSI.

Overall, bad night to be racing. My buddy with a turbo Regal that had 2 nights previous run a 12.4 could not best a 13.0 (ran 13.2 all night until his last run). I got 3 runs in, a 16.6, a 16.4, and a 15.6. Something is wrong, no? On the 15.6 run, I actually just missed a tie with a GTP who ran a 15.5 @ 90 (with u-bend removed and an intake). A GTP with a guy who's drag raced many times before running that kind of a time? Yeah, something's off.

Personally, I can name a million different things wrong with my car that put me off. The two 16-second runs it didn't click, but I would launch at about 1500 and have no power off the line until about 4k, and even then it was sluggish. I was pulling 2.7 60's. It wasn't until I went to park and the car nearly stalled that I figured it out: my intake was coming apart. The two flex sections on my intake were completely apart and separated about 2 or 3 inches. Good for power? Probably not. I duct taped that together the best I could, but ended up with a tube of duct tape about 1/2 the ID of the intake flex sections with tape on the inside sticking every which direction. That's when I proceeded to run a 15.6. That run had a 2.466 60', but I also launched just off idle and I doubt the duct tape was helping my power any.

So, that needs fixed. Need to hook my transmission goodies up again. Still haven't bested my 15.5 @ 90 since I got the 00VI, kind of depressing. Had some fun on the highway on the way home and still managed to embarrass some Civics, but alas.

Run 1:

R/T ... .665
60' ... 2.684
330 ... 7.233
1/8 ... 10.865

Sounds like the track was not prept... this has happened to me before. When you took off at idle it hooked up better. Whenever this happens put your tires to 18-20 psi. It will help your 60 foot alot. You said your friend couldn't get down his times either... Yea sounds like they dint do anything to it.

i'm assuming your car is auto with those 60' times, correct?

nothing can be blamed on weather conditions for your area yesterday, they were pretty good. hopefully it's the car and not the driver (driver is much more difficult to fix).

I find that launching at idle works the best for me

The track was prepped better than the track I usually go to, but not great, either. Yes, Neal, my car is auto. I think the problem with my 60' is that my power is down because of the screwed up intake. Once I get the intake fixed we'll see what happens. I plan on going there once more before the end of the season.

Hey man if you'd have bought my RSB then maybe you'd have got 14.9.....

Hey now. That would have slowed me down due to the extra weight

In all seriousness, I'll get a good intake on and hope for a 14.9 on a cold night. It's sad that just patching up a broken one netted me a .8 second improvement. Oh well. Time will tell.

Damn. that 60' needs some work man. Do you have a CAI or shortram? I noticed CAI gives better low end response and power when i was N/A.

Damn man, that sucks. I know how you feel though. When my car was stock, the one time i actually had time to make it to the track to get some baseline runs before i put my intake and y-pipe on, the car starts missing like crazy under load..turns out my plugs were toast.

Good luck on 14's. I think you should definately be able to get into the 14's with your mods! if you can get a good launch and fix any problems i think your maxima is capable of a 14.7.

With the auto and the lack of good tracks (the one last night was decent but was a 2 hour drive!) I'm not sure a 14.7 is within my reach with these mods (at least not without tuning) but a 14.9 shouldn't be out of the question. We'll see when I get these issues sorted out.

Streetz...I was actually running a weird intake setup. Two flex sections, stock midpipe, MAF, and an open cone. The two flex sections separated from each other, that was the biggest issue. I found a longer flex section to replace one of them and the cone filter is being ditched in favor of the stock air box then (including the snorkel). For right now, though, I put my short ram piping back on.

Put the short ram back on and the car pulls like no other

The part-throttle torque at low RPM's for driving around town is a little disappointing, but that's excusable until I get all the stock stuff on.

Turns out aside from my intake falling apart, the TPS is reading about 8% off also. More and more stuff I keep finding to explain the poor times...

12$ for test an tune is crazy, for here test and tune is 75$ and its always full. I think it goes from 6 or 7pm too midnight too.

what? how is that even possible lol. the most expensive track I've ever been to (RT 66, one of the best and fastest tracks in the country) is like $35 - I've run at actual 2 day events there and only paid $55...

$35 is the most expensive I've been to. Most are like $20 on Friday nights.

12$ for my local track If you enter in any events, then the entry fee can get pricey (85$)

it was only 10 bucks to race at the tracks back home for me, but here in NZ its way up there, usually $35 dollars a day to $50. what gets me is at one track I have to pay an extra 20 to get in, on top of my race fee ?

its all good, and get that car into the 14's, you know she can do it !

Oh, she can do it. Just needs a few fixes and tweaks (and maybe some tuning).

I've ridden in two 4th gens with OBDII scanners and both of their TPS read 92% at WOT. I don't get it.

That's weird I at least have somewhat of an explanation for mine, but that is very weird. In my case I have a 4th gen TPS on a 5th gen throttlebody and just sort of eyeballed it whenever I put it on.
