Raced My freinds 2000 Mustang GT

I have a 2000 GXE 5speed. Only mods are k&n Panel filter and removed the intake screen.

My friend and I were coming home from work on the interstate, and he pulls up next to me at 70mph. He gives the go signal and we take off, I am expecting to get crushed, I drove his car and it flies. Anyways, I drop to 3rd and go. To my suprise, I was able to pull away from him and pull in front of him in his lane by 100mph.

I called his cell phone immediately to harass him, and he said he was in 4th gear. So this time he went into 3rd. He stayed right next to me for a little bit, but by 100mph I was almost a full car length ahead.

I know he knows how to drive, his car runs 14.0's at 98 with just a k&n filter. I am taking mine to the track in a week or two. I know he would destroy me from a light, that thing has a ton of low end power.

Also raced my dad's buick regal (Supercharged 3.8) from 70 on up, pulled away from him like he was standing still. This must be a good mph/rpm to race someone from in 3rd.

Good run but you're right about trying to take him from a dead stop (He would probably smoke you in that type of race). Always good to hear about "Good Ole" American muscle cars being beat by our slick maximas.

Have you had you car dynoed or at the drag strip yet? I would like to know how much of a difference the SC made. Did you do the install?

Yes it dynoed 174 FWHP stock and 250 FWHP after the SCer install. Unfortunately I loose approx. 22% of my HP due to the auto tranny. I haven't had her dynoed since I've added the Cattman SS y-pipe or the Protorque T.C.er. I'm waiting for the ERL Aquamist system to get in and then I plan on dynoing it with my current setup and after I install the intake cooler, so stay tuned for more up to date dyno #s and the dyno graph.

Nice kill! Those things are good on low end, but really slow on the top. I raced one on the freeway the other day and smoked him We started at 60mph and by the time I hit 110mph, I was 2-3 cars ahead. We were both autos. The bad thing is he was racing me with his daughter in the car. She looked no more then 10 yrs old. She must have been freaked out! I would not race if I had my daughter in the car. It's bad enough I risk my own life, but someone elses... just my 2 cents.

Congrats. We are pretty mean when it comes to high-end torque.

Not to mention the fact that if it was a windy road, you would have killed him.
No way a Mustang is going to out handle a Max!

Do you think I would take him on the twisties as well? I have the original tires/wheels/hupcaps still on (2000 GXE spd with no options!). The tires are skinny 215/65/15's (they look even skinnier than you would think). I have 225/60/15's waiting to be installed on new rims. I didn't want to spend too much $$ on tire/rims. I want to use the $$ for horsepower increases.

Another friend has been talking crap about how is stock 91 eagle talon 4wd tsi could take my car at the strip and on twisting roads. I know I will smoke him in the 1/4 next week, but I have my doubts about the handling.

DMan:
I'm curious (and ignorant) why the supercharger in a 3000 cc engine creates so much HP and the SC'd GTP with a 3800 cc doesn't put out nearly that much. GTP engine is > 25% bigger.

Yep - 3rd gear is great. Even better to race him from 80 - haha.

If your buddy can drive, a stock AWD Talon will kill an auto Max in the 1/4. From a roll, its a different story. But, they can leave the line hard. Youll be gaining on him the second 1/8th mile, but they will get too big of a lead in the first 1/8th mile to catch them.

I raced an almost stock AWD (just underfrive pulleys) Talon at the track and just barely beat him (by about a tenth of a second) and I ran a 14.5.

I have a stock 2000 GXE with the comfort package so I have the 16 in rims, but the car handles like a dream.
I can't believe it actually.
My girlfiend had a 5 spd Mustang GT conv and then traded it in for a 2000 Eclipse GT and I know that my Max would take both of them on the twisties.
The Mustang would take it off the line, but I know that the Maxima would take the Eclipse from start to finish.
You might want to spend the extra $$ for the tires.
What good is all that HP if you can't keep it on the ground.
Good Luck!

Good question Gregg but I really don't have an answer. I'm not quite sure what kind of boost the GTPs are running but maybe the centrifugal type SCer (like the V2 Vortech blower) is more efficient at producing more HP but then again that is a total guess. Hey lets face it our car have one of the BEST V6s ever made and it just responds and performs equally well when modified. Can anyone else better answer Gregg's question?

I think the 3.8 liter GM supercharged engine puts out 6psi of boost. This Eton supercharger is a positive displacement supercharger. It puts out tons of low end torque, but becomes more inefficient as the revs rise. It will give an incredible boost in the low to mid range, but will not do so great in the higher revs. I think the stock 3.8 puts out 200hp, and the sc's puts out 240 which I would bet is underrated. It is probably more like 260. THere is probably a higher increase in the torque, but I don't know the numbers. The 3.8's are not high revving machines. I think redline is 5200 or something.

Have you noticed any negative effects of adding the supercharger? Gas mileage? Lag?

How much did the total setup including parts and labor run you?

When I get my 5th Gen, I am going to order the SC within the smae week. I know that I can get it from Stealin', but I would prefer not to get price raped by them.

Thanks.

Hey DMan, I like the style of your car, no external gadget, but a lots of power. I also own a 2K1 Se 20th auto which I am planning on adding some serious horsepower by next year, so how went your SC set-up ? was there a lot of custom setting ? Also what was the unexpected bugs that happend while installing the SC ? I am trying to gathered the maximum info before I start to order all the parts for the SC installation.

Thanks for your answers.

Cheers
