I plan on making my own intake. Something simple. I want to just replace the stock airbox with a K&N cone filter. I know I need an intake adapter once I take out the airbox, but what size do I need? 3" or 4"? Thanks!

OSCAI 3.0? it is a OSCAI with a cone filter attached to the end with panel filter removed and front air scoop sealed.

I want the same exact thing as the Stillen intake, but I want to do it myself with a K&N filter (which Stillen uses) and an intake adapter. Do you what size I need? Would I have to seal up the front air scoop?

Your local performance shop should have dozens of different sizes and types for you to use. Basically, you find one that fits the K&N and drill the holes to match the MAF. You should just zip-tie the front air scoop where it is.

I was thinking of adding a tube to go from the MAF to the throttle-body(mostly for LOOKS):

1)A 3" 180-degree mandrel bent tube(Summit/JC Whitney).
2)Two hose clamps.
3)A piece of thick hose(radiator?).
3)JB weld.
4)A few pieces of 3/8" to 1/2" steel tubing.

OR

Order an A-pipe from Cattmans' CAI for $85.

Home made intake..>

I made my own intake bracket for a generic cone filter. I thought that $25 was to much for just a aluminum bracket so I went to Home Depot for some ideas. I found a aluminum bracket that was a exact match for $9. It's used to make electrical boxes water tight. It's threaded inside but that can easily be fixed. The outside of the bracket where the filter connects is 2.75 inches. The diameter is perfect for most standard cone filters. So I bought a generic cone filter from Pep Boys($24.99) to go along with my bracket. $34 is the total and the car never felt better...any intake makes a world of difference.

Hey, What's that alluminum bracket called? And where can I find it at Home Depot? i thought about doing this and if I can make everything myself, it's even better.

The bracket is for electrical conduit, go to the electric section and above the electrical boxes are these aluminum brackets. Look for a square bracket that's a 3x3 square and has a large hole in the center. You'll have to enlarge the 4 holes to mount it to the MAF so buy some washers, nuts and bolts but it does work.

Isn't 180-degrees a straight line?? So the pipe would not be bent at all?

90 Degrees is a right angle. 180 degrees mean you are facing the direction you came from. Its a 'U' shape. A straight line would be 0 degrees.

What he said.

Basically, you cut a piece off each leg so you have a bend with a little straight peice(throttle-body side) and a long straight peice to the MAF. It would take a few trial fits to get it right.

Just curious, how many members are engineers? There's alot of performance to be gain by tuning all systems to each other rather than just "bigger intake....bigger exhaust", but seems that there is little consern as to harmonic effects of each mod effecting each other. There's alotta umph that's not being taken advantage of by just randomly throwing on a larger exhaust and intake

engineers!

I'm a structual engineer not a mechanical but I do know what you mean.
Some mods for the max have little impact, and because we are not "moding mods" the best test we can do is the dyno/track to see how they help.
I hope the manufactures (like Stillen) are working to make the mods better. (then we all can try any copy our own cheaper versions!)

Curious as to the engine performance parts by companies such as Stillen are designed to produce optimal performance when used with a complete Stillen "package" of performance mods. If this would be the case then optimal performance from a single mods(for those of us who are just looking for a wee bit more juice)such as CIA will never be seen.

Stillen (Stealin') would really be reaming us from both their crazy prices and the fact that their product isn't doing all that it could be for what the customer has done to their car.................maybe I think too much

I was watching Macgiever?? the other night and he was making an intake. He use an old toilet tissue roll, a miniature lamp shade, a maxi-pad(super absorbant) and a vaccum cleaner belt. It think it increased his hsp by 30.

Ahh....the "Ol' Lady Hormone Rush" Intake. The toilet tissue roll is usually jabbed into your ear, the lampshade smashed over your head and the maxi-pad stuffed in your mouth as you "Rush" back to the store to get tampons instead. I find it's sometimes is closer to a 40hp bump, of course it could be 3,00hp increase and never, EVER be enough to get you home in time.
