I'm doing alot of work to my Maxima and I need some opinions out there on a good repair manual for my 92 GXE. Is the Haynes or Chilton any good?

The Factory Service Manual is the Best.

Don't know about cost on a new manual from Nissan, but I pick up a FSM for my '81 280ZX on ebay for $35. I *think* they run about $75-100 from Nissan. The Nissan FSM's are definately well worth the money. I won't buy Haynes or Chilten's anymore - they are too generic.

My sister just ordered a factory service manual for her
'94 and I think it cost around $75. I'm borrowing it
right now; the thing is huge and if you are serious about
doing your own work, it's the only way to go.

Check out Ebay for a while and if one does not pop up,
just order one through a dealer. Not sure if Coz at
UltimateZ could get you a 25% discount on one or not,
hadn't thought to ask him, but that's an idea...

I just got through changing the timing belt, tensioner,
water pump, thermostat, and accessory belts on my '93
GXE and the factory service manual was much more detailed
than the pages I copied out of the Mitchell's guide.
Mitchell's Guide had sort of a "condensed" version of
what was in the factory service manual.

thanks alot peeps!

I made the mistake of buying that damn Haynes guide which didn't really help me out but I plan to buy the FSM to help me with the timing belts repairs and such. THanks for the replys!

Its funny because I was working on the brakes of my moms car today, using the Chilton manual my dad bought and it was like reading Shakespeare. Chilton manuals are horrible. You should ask people who are selling their car in the forsale section if they have the factory manual I wished I had done that.
