Good price for 01 SE Demo

Looking for suggestions on what a good price offer would be for a 01 SE Demo with between 1000 and 3000 miles. I'm thinking at least $1500 under invoice. What do you guys think ?

AT LEAST! A demo is a used car and a used car depreciates quite a bit more than that. Just because the delaer calls it a demo they think they can knock a grand off and you'll be happy to buy it. What would you pay for a 2001 with a couple of thousand miles from a private party. Also, a demo is taken home and beaten by a dozen salesman and test driven hard by 20 guys before it is broken in. OUCH.

Not that you shouldn't buy a demo, but take that into account.

Just for comparison sake.

In todays' local paper there were two PRIVATE PARTY ads:
1)2000 SE Fully Loaded w/17K miles for $24K.
2)2001 AE SE Loaded for $26.5K.(No miles mentioned)

2000-2001 Maxima PRIVATE PARTY ads are VERY rare around here, so I bet these are higher than MOST areas. I sold my last car for around $500 less than what I paid for it OTD 1-1/2yrs. later with 8K more miles, because of the HIGH demand for super clean cars without tax/title/registration. I wonder what I could get for my:
2001 SE 5-speed, C&C package, '02 headlamps w/HIDs, and ~6800 miles. I would be happy with $25K.

Agreed. You know how you drive a car when you're test driving. You're looking to see the acceleration, how fast it brakes, how tightly it turns. Basically, you treat it horribly. Considering the salesperson usually doesn't let you go very far, you never know how many people have test driven it for it to rack up 1k miles. I would definitely be careful before purchasing this Max because the problems in the future can definitely be more costly than the savings you get initially.

For starters, you can subtract .25 or .30 per mile driven, or whatever the going rate is for mileage reimbersement.

Don't get a demo unless it's dirt cheap. They get beat on big time.

A lot great responses here and they are all on the money.
After you beat them down on a price (See what NADA.com says, they are the most conservative) ask them if they will sell you an extended warantee on the car. I'm sure they will, but point out the "rough" life it has had so far and see if they will discount the price on the extended warantee.
This is one of the few cases the cost of an extended warantee would be justified.

I tend to agree with all of the above. Being a demo, its probably been driven hard often. However, the $1500 or whatever they take off the price is definitely worth putting into the extended warranty, in my opinion anyway.

Well, I bought my 00 new with no miles for $1500 under invoice and would be willing to bet you can buy a 01 SE new now or in the near future for that much. They'll be dying to get rid of the 01s to sell the 02s.

I'd say pass on the demo - but if you decide to get it, I wouldn't worry. Most of us drive our cars harder than any demo and they still hold up great!!

A 2000 SE shouldnt go for much more than $20k tops.

Like I said, 2000-2001 Maximas are RARE around here. I check the papers once in awhile and maybe see 1 ad a month and they are usually a dealer. I was actually surprised to see two decent Private Party ads together. I bet the new Altima and Maxima are starting to make people get nervous, so they are selling now.

It really depends on who drove it though...some demos are driven by the wife fo the sales manager or something like that...and in those cases, the car would be in a much better condition.

man dont dare buying a demo without extended wtty (powertrain wtty til 100K miles) and for less than $3K's below the invoice. Now look, its the end of the model year clearance event by Nissan. It's the best time to get a brand new car. Some dealers should still have 2001's in stock, you may get $1500 under invoice for a brand-new.
