I wanted to know if the engine of the "Z" and the Max are the same? I test drove an 93 "Z" nonturbo and it seems that there is no difference in power than my 01 AE/SE. The only difference I feel is handling it grips and corners, excellent! I wanted to get your opinion to see if it is worth getting a used "Z" convertible w/51000.00 miles, asking between $12,000-$14,000. Is it worth it? Thanks!!!

The NA Z32 had a VG30DE engine that was rated at 222 hp, the same as our VQ30DE.

I believe that they do have the same engine. Either way it's rated the same. There's this guy who has a Z and I was asking him about it. All he said was "You wish". Haa haa... I think he just doesn't want to admit that our Maximas can whup his Z.

the vg30de in the z's was rated at 222hp?? why was it only rated at 160hp in the 3rd gen max's then? that was one of the main diff's between the gxe's and se's on the 3rd gen's. the gxe's came with the vg and the se's came with the ve30de engine which added variable timing control and bumped the hp up to 190.

Please tell me that you are joking. We DO NOT have the same engine.

The VG in the 3rd gen was SOHC and the VG in the Z was DOHC.

they aren't the same engine..

since the 240SX and the 3rd gen Max have roughly the same horsepower make it the same engine - no.... just because the Z32 and new Max have roughly the same HP doesn't make it the same engine.

I believe that the '92 and later SE got the VE30DE, which was DOHC and rated at 190 hp. The VG30E in the maxima was SOHC, rated at 160 hp....
