For the last year and a half my electical system on my 95 maxima has been screwed up.

Heres a history of when the problem first started and what went wrong.
I put clear outside tail lights on my car about 1.5 years ago and all off a sudden my cruise control only worked when my headlights or parking lights were off. I discovered that every once in a while if I tried to activate cruise contol when my lights where on I whould blow a tail light fuse. This went on for a few weeks until I put a higher amperage fuse in place of my tail light fuse which was constantly burning out. On one occasion before I put a higher amperage fuse in place my dash lights all went out and tail lights. I discovered that the tail light fuse under the hood was destroyed, so I replaced it and the lights worked again. Some time during all this stuff my corner lights and dash lights starting acting strange, when ever I hit my brake peddle my corner lights come on and my dash lights come on, this still happens everday. BTW my 3rd brake light on my spoiler is always on when my parking lights or headlights are on. When my parking lights and headlights are off the cruise control funtions perfectly fine.

I have been living with this for quite sometime now and I have asked this question a few times over the last year 1.5 years but no one could give me any anwsers. I am hoping that maybe some newer members could come up with a possible solution, mainly Daniel B. Martin.

I have inspected my tail lights and there connections thorouly{S?} and I have not discovered any visible problems.
The problem seems to be some how linked to the fact that my lights and brake peddle are some how linked elecricaly. Tjis makes my cruise control module{maybe?} think that one my lights are on I am hitting my brakes which inturn is supposed to deactivate cruise control.

Please let me know what you know and I greatl appreciate it as always, Thanks..

Sounds like you might have a bad socket in the clear tails you put in. Check that the sockets are all ok and the correct bulbs are in each socket. You have a cross connection someplace !!!!!
Start by taking all the bulbs out and go for a quick run and test the cruise. If that works again, then you've got your problem located.

Njmaxseltd has put you on the right track. Look at the stop/tail bulb sockets and also the bulbs. If you find the solder terminals on the bulb bases "smooshed" replace the bulbs.

Never replace a fuse with a higher-rated fuse. Doing that is just begging for trouble.

My cruise control works, in finely works! I took all my tail lights out like NJ said and the cruise control came on with the lights on. After that I put one bulb back in at a time and noticed I had a 1156 bulb in place of a 1157 bulb. I had a few new bulbs in the house so I put the correct size in and now every thing works perfectly. I whould like to give a big thanks to both of you guys for helping me out. It looks like I can finaly sit back and relax on my long ride home every night.. Thank you!
