I just had the Fuel Cut TSB done today at my local dealership and I wanted to tell anyone that has a 5 speed that has not had this fixed yet....do it. My car is so much more consistant from a stop in first and the annoying pulse at low rpms is gone. Make your appointment today (it might take some convincing to the mechanic, but it is worth it.)

I know exactly what you mean, I felt the same way, it makes it bearable to drive in 1st gear,in traffic.

 

was the work done under warranty or did you have to pay?

 

It should be done under warranty as long as you are under 36,000 miles. It would probably help to bring the TSB in printed out. Check the sticky.

Isn't this covered by the 5yr/60000 mile warranty?

I got mine fixed on Tuesday. The service guy that took my keys said they were not going to do it. "We just don't fix TSB's when customers ask us to." I had shown him a print out of the TSB and told him he will fix it or get the service manager in here right now. Needless to say, I got a call 1 hour later, my oil was changed and my TSB fixed. The bucking in first gear has gone and now feels much better driving in 1st gear.

 

Could you watch your gas milage and see if there is any difference? That is the only thing holding me back. I am afraid gas mileage will be worse than it is...Although some of that is my artificial lead foot!

 

I asked my dealer and he didn't want to do it. He said that they test drove it and didn't feel anything. How can i convince them to do it, he didn't even want to look at the printed TSBs.

Here is how I plan to do it. I will ask them to keep a constant throttle between 1200 and 2K. If they can do it for more than 2 seconds, I will walk away. If they can't, they be doin it or I be throwin a tantrum!

I can hold the RPM anywhere else in the band except for there. It just won't happen. Plus now I am experiencing jerking or hesitation at highway speeds. This is not a happy camper here.....

Yes, this Full Cut problem is significantly reduced by the re-programming of the ECM. Both my wife and I were seriously unhappy with all the "jerking around" at low revs in first gear. Our dealer here in Canada said, "Drive it and the problem should disappear." Well it didn't! I copied the TSB and took a copy to the dealer..."That's an American TSB, you have a Canadian vehicle." I contacted Nissan Canada...same message, "Your vehicle is Canadian emissions certified; doesn't apply to your vehicle. Hmm, said I...the emissions certification label indicates California!

I kept pressing for resolution and finally the service manager (who was a bit annoyed that I had contacted Nissan Canada to complain - which of course was referred back to the dealer - and that I had information they knew nothing about) agreed to have the car in to check the ECM programme. Well, guess what...the tech hooked up the computer programming unit with the ECM programing module card and lo and behold there was an update for my ECM, and it had exactly the part number noted in the TSB.

We have noticed NO adverse consequences of the ECM re-programming and that nasty jerking is MUCH reduced. Perhaps still a tiny bit twitchy, but we're both happy. After 22 years of automatics (Pontiac Lemans - yucch; Mazda MPV - not bad for a family van) it is a joy to get back to car you can actually DRIVE! Takes us back to our 1972 BMW 2002...and our friend with a BMW 325i loves the SE 20th Anniversary!
