I decide to take out my CRX for a brisk drive to my friend's place. I still had my magnetics on from a race the day before and my race tires were still on as well. So, my car is looking like a typical ricer (not to mention it's YELLOW).
I'm driving down a 3 lane road, in the middle lane, light light traffic, when this guy and his buddy flies past me. I'm going 50mph, he's easily going 65-70mph. After he flies past me, his brake lamps light up. He slows down and I notice it's an AE Maxima. He slows back and paces me with his rear bumper at my front bumper.
He then punches it, gets about a car length in front of me, then slows back down. He does it again. I do nothing, as i'm not in the mood to street race on my race tires.

He slows back down, pulls in front of me, flips his hazards, then takes off again.

This guy is asking for it. This goes on through two green lights and about 5mins. We start approaching a red light and it's about to turn green. He gets to it first and comes to a complete stop, whereas i'm slowly rolling to it. I'm figuring, eh, you only live once...

Light turns green, he takes off with a car length lead. Minor tire slippage. I just floor it in 1st from my roll. Top of first gear, I'm at his rear bumper.
Top of second gear, i'm even with him and waving at him and his friend.
Middle of third gear, I'm half a car length ahead. I shut down as he wasn't gonna catch up. He just does a ricer flyby and keeps going.

I'm guessing it was just a stock 5spd AE. Eh, you win some, you lose some.

Later on that night, a Z06 tried to race me (was this guy on crack?). I didn't run him as i knew i'd get crushed.

 

You ran a automatic not a 5spd. There is no way that your car can beat a auto Maxima with just the HF model CRX. I ran my friends HF with the B16 dropped in, and ecu, intake, exhaust, etc, and I pull him slowly from a roll. My other friend has a SI crx, and he just gets his *** handed to him by me all the time.

Anyways, congrats on so called beating a auto Maxima....unless you have some type of engine swap, then it is believeable.


Also, why don't you remove or change that line in your sig, to Russell's does know 90% of the time what he is talking about. I seem to know a hell of alot more than you about Nissan's in general.

I have a 90 HF. 1967lbs curb. My CRX is gutted. AC/heater core gone. windshield wipers, motor, reservior, gone. Interior panels. Gone. Estimated curb weight - 1850lbs. Me in it, 2000lbs.

15.38lbs per hp for me and the CRX

AE 5spd. 3200lbs curb. 3500lbs est. with driver and passenger.
15.41lbs per hp for AE and it's passengers.

My gearing as follows:
1st - 3.25
2nd - 1.94
3rd - 1.34
FD - 4.25 (i do have 4th and 5th, just not relevant)

I'm sure my gearing is a bit more aggressive than the 5spd in the Maxima (someone want to post the gears)

Let's see, i've ran a 15.50@94mph with a HORRIBLE 2.4 60'. Yeah, it's not possible for my car to beat a 14.90 at the same trapspeed, is it? Noooooo, ESPECIALLY when i'm moving on a roll, on race tires with a better hp/lb ratio!!

Well, I hate to admit it but that CRX is a pretty fast car. I know that this is the anti-Honda.org, but give the cars there respect. Don't pass on your dislikes of ricers to all Honda owners.

Anyways, I raced Mr SCCA a couple times in my stock 99 GSR and he pretty much ran me. This was with his last CRX that had a full interior, beats, and street tires. That was around 2 years ago and I'm sure this CRX is quite a bit faster. Improved driver and improved car will equal better times.

What I don't get, is why ya'll pull the BS flag on someone so easily? So whatif he beat an AE? Is he stepping on your manhood? Give respect and thou shalt receive. I'm assuming that if I came on the forum and mentioned a kill against a Maxima with my 4Runner that I'd get flamed? Who cares?

He "shuts down" in the middle of third gear with a 1/2 car lead (if it was a crx half car it would be a bout a foot or two?) because the Max can't catch up? Now that is hillarious! Take your lame story to the si forums scca. And take your car to the track (no not the go cart track but the track for grown up cars) and race an equally modded 5spd Maxima (with no passengers) with "race" tires. Then post timeslips and videos on here and then you might get a bit of respect! Otherwise he should keep the lame "stories" to the Siforums. My .03 cents!

OF COURSE, you are going to win coming from a roll against a maxima (with passenger) sitting there - even if he got a good launch. That is a no brainer to me. You even allude to the fact that you knew you had the guy set up in your post ("you only live once").

You also know enough to end the race when you did. Strong spot on the max - if it was a 5sp - is high rpms in 3rd. You were probably winding out third while the max was below 5200 in 3rd.

Now, about that 15.5. . . No wonder you raced the guy from a roll. Just to clarify something - if you had run a 14.9, you would not have had the same trap speed (94). I'm sure you know that - so why misrepresent that fact? Hmmmmm....

Well, it's a given that the 94mph trapspeed would be a bit higher, but, the purpose was to show that with a good launch (which i'm incapable of doing ), the car would run equal times to a well driven Maxima 5spd. I knew if the guy in the Maxima was capable of launching, he'd easily prove how much of a horrible launcher i am.

Phatguy, i'm more then willing to race you on a race track. I remember seeing Irvine and a few others with their maximas at an event before. I don't know their times, but, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's road course, i was getting pretty consistent 1min 29sec laps. If you're game....assuming you're capable of driving your car fast

2. Did he ever say that his yellow CRX is better/more desirable than an AE? No. Your comments are unwarranted.
3. Grown up track? I think SCCA gave you a challenge, will you partake? How about this, why don't ya'll both go with stock Maximas? I know that SCCA races every other weekend, so he should be able to find a good track.

BTW, I got into a race with a Supercharged 5 speed 5th gen, with my truck. Now my Toyota was fully loaded with steel beams and towing another truck, whereas I gave the Maxima a 2 sec leap and I still walked on him.
