i dunno ... 304 is a much better steel & longer lasting than the 409 ... think people pay a little more for the 304 b/c it lasts ... am I right or am I way out in left field guys?

Blah blah blah

I talked to my roommate who happens to me a metalurgist (sp?) and he said that for a car application like the Y-pipe it doesn't really matter. He said he would use 409 cause of the cost, but that 304 would hold up a little longer than 409. But by the time the 409 had any issues, you wouldn't even have the car anymore.

So both are good. It's all just Stainless steel. If anyone wants a more detailed explaination I can ask?

I think it's brain washing. Everyone has been lead to believe that 304 is better. In certain applications 304 is better and vise versa. But for Y-pipes, I don't think it makes a difference.

I've had both 409 and 304 SS pipes. The 304's look nicer, but who cares since it sits under the car.

Did you replace the y=pipe & the cat, or just the y-pipe ?
