Ran Open manifolds at Track tonight, slips and results!!!!!
Well well well... I had a VERY eventful night to say the least at the drags. The local drag strip is about 30 miles away from my house, with about 25 of that highway. Anyway I drove my noisy car open exhaust to the drags for fun to see what it would do. First I almost forgot to torque down the lug nuts before we hit the highway, goodthing I remembered. A brief rundown of how my car was "prepped". 30 PSI in front tires just about street level, 33 in the rear. I ductaped the 3 O2 sensors out of the way. I removed NOTHING from the car. The stereo, jack, spare tire, seats all stayed. I ran with about 3/4 tank of gas (93 Octane pump gas). The throttle body coolant bypass was in place as well, but I'm gonna undo it cause its causing the throttle to stick. The car has 65,000 miles on it. I also DO NOT have any sort of NOS, did not use any octane booster, and definately do not have a supercharger. I also have stock rubber motor mounts, stock SE suspension, NO LSD, and stock clutch. The only other mods was Optima yellow battery (if that even counts), sway bar and FSB(dont count), and my Office Depot K&N cone.

is where pics of my slips are.
Anyway everyone (on the highway and the track) was looking at me wierd cause I had such loud noises coming out of a relatively new and good looking family sedan. As soon as I hit the highway the service engine light came on. My car is number 246, cause I attached all 3 time slips. I only got to run 3 times, cause the track was pretty crowded. My first run was bad because I couldnt get traction off the line and I just spun and spun and spun. Notice the lousy 60' time. But it also yielded my highest trap speed at 93.32. I was racing my friends S10 and this was his first time at the track and he stalled off the line (hence his 5 second 60 foot).
My second time I had some wheelie hop but still not that bad. My reaction time went down, but so did my trap speed. I thought I had maxed out when I saw 14.8 on the time slip. The car I was racing was a c5 corvette. Looking at the times I beat him off the line, but even at the end he was within a cars length away from me. He musta been not happy when he looked over and I'm still right htere!
But then, on my Third and final run, I launched at around 5,000 RPM again (with an even lower reaction time) with almost a perfect launch. My 60 foot was an amazing 2.188! And this is with 225 50 16 street tires on the stock 16" rims. My ET went down again, but so did my trap speed. 14.655!!!!! @ 92.97 MPH. I have an explanation for the lower trap speed.
On the highway on the way home, I noticed my clutch was acting funny. I performed the "drive 50 MPH and in 5th gear floor the gas" test. Sure enough, my clutch was slipping. That last run probably did it in, cause I remember I had the car floored off the line the RPMs were good at 5,000 RPM, but the wheels were not spinnin and the car felt like the motor was drivin somethin but not movin.
If I had lost the stereo weight (remember, 2 15" woofers, 3 amplifiers), spare tire, had lowering springs with stiff shocks, poly motor mounts, a NON slipping clutch, limited slip, maybe even slicks, I can probably break into the lower 14s.
All in all, I'm defiantely becoming a better drag racer. My launch technique has improved considerably, I don't miss shifts anymore, I shift much faster then before, and my reaction time is closer to perfection now. It's a shame I toasted my clutch, but this gives me an excuse to get a new performance based one. Question is if I should put it in myself, or pay someone to do it. I've dropped the transmission out of my old 90 Camry (auto) to change the flywheel, so its not something I havent done before. While I'm at it, I'm most likely going with the poly motor mounts as well. Hmmm... but since I have the transmission out, the LSD could go in too.... It was fun running open exhaust alright! And then on the return road I blasted afroman's "cause i got high" loud as ***** to prove my stereo was still in the trunk, and cause I was very excited. Surprised alot of people (and me) at the track that something thats FWD with 4 doors can pull mid 14s.
