My Tear Stained Face.....

On my wonderful freeway ride home today, the traffic came to a halt, I stopped my car like everyone else, but unfortunately, the lady behind me had decided at the wrong time to reach down for her cell phone and didn't stop...hitting my car from behind doing about 45mph.....thus my 1BADMAX (the personalized tags I have) is now 1WRECKEDMAX. It was sad to see it loaded to the flatbed wrecker and driven away down the freeway, guts hanging out. My fully loaded 2001 Icelandic Pearl Max now looks like a hatchback, no backend at all and the doors are all jammed shut and can't be opened. The car did it's job, it crumbled in and I wasn't hurt, but damn....why me!

Unfortunately, it isn't going to be totaled. I'm unhurt, although quite sore with a headache right now, and due to quick response from the State Troopers, the other driver is unhurt as well...the accident didn't hurt her at all but I wanted to really bad! Ironically, her car DOESN'T HAVE ONE SCRATCH ON IT! She was driving a 1996 Mazda 626. She bought it two days ago for $13,000. Mine cost me more than twice that and was only 4 months old!

I never realized how humbling and quite honestly embarrassing it is to be standing by a wrecked car with tears in my eyes and having hundreds of rush hour people passing you and staring. (so I am a wuss about my car, at least my sunglasses were on covering up the tears!) My rental car...a 2001 GrandAm. NOTHING LIKE MY MAX! I HATE IT! Repairs are going to take about 30 days. I'm going to go INSANE!

sorry 2 hear that ... I hope you're physically ok ...

I just picked mine up from the body shop ... I was rear-ended as well ... but one good came out of it! Instead of replacing the stock oem muffler ... I got the HKS exhaust put on instead!

is yours a write-off?

No write-off. Between $8-10K in damage but since it's only 4 months old, they are wanting $15K or more in damage to total it. Thinking about having the '02 taillights put on as replacements though....

Re: My Tear Stained Face.....

Dude,

Gotta keep your head clear right now. Same thing happened to my 95 Max 2 years ago. Totaled at a stop light by a Kia Sophia. The chick hit me so hard that it knock my fog lights out. Insurance wanted to repair it(leaving $0 resale value) but the shop kept finding more and more damage. If you can, press the insurance company to total it.

Not to mention neck and back injuries. Before I get flamed...I'm not trying to get him to sue. I'm just saying, if she hit you that hard, you probably have some soft tissue trauma that hasn't really announced itself to you yet. Give it a couple of days.

Anyways,
Best of Luck

hope you are ok

its always sad to lose a new car or one that you have grown used to, even after they fix it it doesn't quite feel the same, thats why when my 99 got messed up im glad they counted it as a total loss, that way they paid me almost the full price for a new one. hope your just as lucky.

Sorry Man...

Sorry about the ride. My max was T-boned about 10 weeks ago when some lady ran a stop sign and I still don't have it back! My car was also quite new (2 months old - 2700 miles). My rental is a Saturn. Definately, not my max!!

Little advice - Bug the heck out of the auto body shop... Call them at least 2 times a week to check on the car. That was my mistake and as I said, I've been without my baby for 10 weeks. Although they claim it will be done early next week. However, I've been hearing "Oh it'll be 1 more week" or "It'll be 3 more days" for the past 5 weeks. I was worried about pressuring the auto body shop too much and in return they'd slap everything together too fast which in turn would cause them to do a half-a$$ job. Since I didn't pressure them, they sat on the car and didn't touch it (except for taking off the dented parts so I couldn't take it elsewhere) for the first 5 weeks.

Her insurance company paid for the rental for the first 30 days and refused to pay after that because they felt the car should've been done. So I had to start paying for the rental!!! That didn't last long. After about 10 phone calls, I finally was able to get hold of a VP at the dealership and I told him how displeased I was and that I wanted them to pay for the rental because it was there fault that it was taking so long. He agreed and right after that they started working on the car (how ironic).

So hopefully you have better luck than I did - Hey, ya live ya learn. Just make sure you watch out for her insurance company stopping payments on the rental if it takes over 30 days and stop in on the body shop as much as you can. Good luck!

well, at least you're not hurt...

she made 2 really bad investment choices there...

1. spending $13,000 on a 5 year old Mazda 626..
2. hitting you.

good luck with your fixes...

Man that sucks. I feel your pain, I kinda "lost" my Max cause I decided the street at my apt. is too narrow and didn't want another moron hitting it while it's parked, so I am taking the old car (too ashamed to name it! Let's just say it's got less than half the HP of my 2k1 Max =P). Glad you weren't hurt though. Good luck with the repair, I just got mine back from the shop today too.

$13K.. I sold my '95 for 6k two months ago. And what a POS auto transmission those things have... I went through 3 trannies in two years.

Good luck with your repairs... At least paint would be better... Doors got jammed and they still wouldn't total it... They better have a good frame machine.
