Nissan dealer will inspect your Nissan FREE of charge during October
Nissan dealer will inspect your Nissan FREE of charge during October
I got this invitation in the mail.
It says:
"October is Nation Car Care Month
Your Nissan Dealer will inspect your Nissan vehicle for FREE.
October 8-13, 15-20
Call to confirm your appointment today!"
Then there is a bunch of stuff listed which will include in the check up.
It includes, Fuel system, engine, transmission, all lighting, Exhaust, Steering, Cooling, Fluid levels, Brakes, Wiper system, Electrical and more....
Is this for real? Becuase if it's free.... WHY NOT!

oh, no doubt about it... They'll pop the hood, check the dip stick, start the car, rev it a few times and say NEXT.. But who knows? I'm thinking there should be a catch, or why would they do that? Maybe they think there are many cars with problems out there, at least they'll say it has problems, that would just attract more service since some people don't want to bother looking for better deals or do the labor themselves....

The same reason why they have a recommended service every 7500 miles. They always suggest power flushes, new batteries, new belts, alignments, and so on. Many people leave the dealership $200 poorer after these campaigns.

I'm not giving them ****!
Just as long as it's free.... why not. They will probably bull**** on some of the things, claiming my car needs something, I won't get anything done there.. I'll just say, thank you I'll be back and go home and inspect it myself..
Careful
Careful, last time Nissan tried to charge me for something, they wanted $110 to change whatever it is that lets my hazard lights work. I said "ok, I'll come back next week and do it", drove away, replaced the fuse, and they worked fine.
And how long do you think the free inspection will take? They will ask you to leave your car there for a day, then check it over for five minutes, and recommend repairs that are not needed.
Is that really worth it to lose your car for a day? If you have been dilligent in maintaining your car, you should know when something is going wrong with it. Odd noises...drivability issues...any Maxima nut would notice if something is "wrong" with the car.

The worst case that I can think of is that some mechanic performs free check up by adjusting something in the car so it will grdually fail. They would say it's time to replace it or it'll fail any time soon... After customer brings back the car they'll say "see I told you earlier ..."
Careful Nyce
Especially if that invite came from Bay Ridge Nissan. Its all a scheme in the long run. Four out of five people will probably agree to do something that they didnt really need done. So the "Free inspection" gets them tons more potential people to rip off because otherwise you wouldnt visit the dealership and they wouldnt have a chance to try to charge you $.
Nissan Inspection
If you don't think that they'll actually complete the inspection in detail, just watch them work on your car. Even if I'm only getting an oil change, I follow my car to the mechanic shop at the dealership and watch as they do everything. So long as you don't cause any problems, they shouldn't have any reason to tell ya to leave the shop, since we're probably not supposed to be in there anyway. I usually ask some questions and say that I'd like to learn some tips for working on my car. Peace.

I prefer to do that as well, but some shops don't have windows in their waiting rooms which let you see the progress of your car, or they may have signs posted "only employees allowed in the work area."

There's no real "catch" here. Back in spring, they had the same deal. I read the whole coupon incl. fine print, called my closest Nissan dealer listed (Koeppel Nissan in Queens, NYC), and made an appointment. The only problem is that you really have to bring it in literally when they open or right when the mechanics get there and before they have to take care of the other customers (the people rich enough to pay for Nissan service..). Made an appointment for 9, and brought mine in at like 8:30 on a Saturday morning (I believe the service center opens at 8). But there was already a bunch of people waiting. Ended up just leaving at 10. While waiting I talked with a few of the early birds who were just about done. They give you that diagnostic sheet with plenty of "recommended" repairs. But they can't force you to stay, so I guess it's free as long as you don't get suckered....
