2000 Sentra SE manual vs. 2000 Maxima auto

This guy at work keeps nagging at me to race him in a quarter mile run and says he will smoke me. He has a sentra se 5 speed or whatever speed they come in and I have an auto. I read quarter mile times on edmunds and it and the maxima was only .1 faster than the sentra. i question that but don't question that the sentra se is fast i think the times were 15.9 and 16.0 for the sentra. Were can i find the quarter mile times for both cars. i rejected the race several times because I don't race rarely and maybe only on the track but how can i get a good jump on a race with my auto and what are the steps. i know hoe to manually shift and auto bit brake torque or whatever, haven't the slightest clue. Thanks guys and sorry for my shift key being messed up.

Well I can promise you will not take him off the line. I use to own one I pulled 2.1 60fts stock in that puppy and did a 15.8 at 86mph. Others have ran with a CAI 15.5. They have LSD which shoots them off the line. I ran a few maximas and took them till 3rd and then they started to pass me. Since you have a auto, you most likely will lose.

Sorry, I will still stand to my point. The LSD on those cars will kill our not locking tranny. The auto will not beat him, guranteed till 60 or so.

Just practice the manual shifting in an auto and use up every last rpm you can, and you'll beat him.
I'll admit a Sentra took me off the line, and I was passing him by 45, cause I didn't expect him to launch, and when he did I just put my foot to the floor instead of power braking. When I did power brake on him he stayed with me to the top of his first and his 1-2 put him on my front door, 2-3 put him at my bumper, after i started a steady pull-away...flashers on.
Mods: Intake, drop.
No Y-Pipe, no Level Ten Stage 3, no port matched heads.
More to come: UDP, and CAMS(Potential being researched.)

Where on edmunds do you see 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?

I did a search and found a review of a sentra. Did the same for the Max. Remember that i said i think that is what I saw.

Russ I thought that LSD was an option on a Sentra. I don't think he has LSD.

If he has the performance package yes he has it, if not, then no.

Just for that, I'm gonna pick on every Sentra SE w/ a stick, and prove a point. 0-60 ? Get your head out of the magazine or internet sites. 90% of the drivers out there don't get their car to do 100%
I've taken a GST off the line, I almost had the Subaru off the line, but for 3 ft, then he pulled in 1st, I caught him in 2, and had a length on him by 3.
Sentra 0-60, ahead of a "stock" Auto Max.....hard to believe.
What magazines? I OWNED both cars. I have experience. I ran cars at the meet in Dallas a while back in my Sentra. It was proven. 0-60 in the Sentra if driven right will be much better tahn any stock auto Max.

I doubt he will beat me since he bought the car like five months ago and was barely learning how to drive stick. He also has been going to the races lately and learn how to take race it and how to take off the line. I like the Sentra (new gen.) but his cockyness is getting to me. I know the 2.0s are pretty quick and i was actually considering getting one before i ever though of getting a Maxima since i thought Maximas were always out of my range. But like I said His attitude is getting on my nerves. Since I don't or actually rarely race i might eventually just to settle the matter. If he wins Oh I can just here it now.
