PCV valve and other stuff

I just got my car back (96 100% stock and keeping it that way, I have a 72 510 to race with!) after 3 months sitting at my fathers. It almost overheated and I left it there for the summer.
Now it is time to do a little maintanence.

1. I bought a PCV valve with the air cleaner and couldn't see an obvious place for it to go.

2. The car would intermittently get to H (never really overheating but damn close). The fans are working fine and if I stopped, let the car cool for a 1/2 an hour or so it stayed in the middle like always. I suspect the thermostat.
In May I had the radiator back flushed and (at the time) I lived at the beach (so. cal.). It never got hot enough to go over half anyway. Since then I moved to Vegas and these episodes started. There is no rhyme or reason only sometimes it gets hot. It does it idling and running on the freeway. Once it is hot it will never drop down until I shut the car off for a while and then it doesn't get hot again. I can't make it do it so .... I am replacing the thermostat and radiator for good measure. Any other suggestions?

3. I also had a problem with the car not starting (it was the ignition switch) and the dumb *** mechanic first changed the starter (which I told him wasn't bad) and then finally the ignition switch. (I was working 80 hours a week then and didn't have time to **** with it myself). Since then the if I leave the lights on and pull out the key the warning bell doesn't go off. Anyone have a clue where this dumb *** disconnected the wire for this, (and also maybe something for the overheat prob, unlikely as it seems).

4. I noticed a "hose" looks about 3/8" coming up from the block and right under a larger hose going to the Intake stuff. I thought maybe it was a vacuum hose but I am not sure. It is not hooked to anything so maybe it is just a breather? It is very easy to see if someone else can check.

#4 is perfectly normal, everyone has that hose on there max. I believe it is a condensation drain or breather.

If I were you I whould first test the engine coolant sensor and replace it if needed. From my understaning your problem sounds electrical because it works intermitantly. I highly dow't your radiator is the culprit.

As for #1, the PCV valve is on the lower right of your intake manifold just to left of your Throttle body. There is a 5 inch hose connected to it. In order to remove it, first pry the hose off and then get a flat head screw driver and pry the PCV valve out. Incase you did not know the PCV valve should have to affect on your car over heating. Best of luck.
