Beat a V6 Accord...I think??

I was cruisin back from ATL last night when a V6 accord coupe flys by me and then slows down. I end up behind him and we get stuck behind traffic, as soon as its open, I punch it back up to my previous cruising speed of 80. He runs up and gets next to my right rear quarter and waits a few seconds then puches it. I did the same and just left him like he was standing still. We went through this little dance about 4 more times till I got tired of it.

I thought those things should keep up with a Max, especially above 90mph where the precious VTEC can help. Was he just not trying???

That 200 HP Honda is alot more bark. . .

than bite. Marketing probably has alot to do with that. I recently found out something else about Honda V6es, They're all SOHC. I assumed they were DOHC like our Nissan V6 and the Honda 4 bangers, but no. Even the Acura TL/CL type S is an SOHC design. Only the chief NSX has a DOHC VTEC V-6. I guess having VTEC and DOHC in a V6 is too expensive a design to have in a car that's not in the NSX category.

It just goes to show that, as well as there being no substitute for cubic inches, there's also no substitute for cams. The more the better

Not always true about the SOHC thing. The car makes 200hp out of a 3l v6. So was the 4th gen vq...in fact...making 10hp less...but a little more torque than the honda. The SOHC is actually MORE EFFICENT design.....it still has a 4valve per cyl but only needs 2 cams in the engine to run it(versus 4 of the nissan). That produces less friction and better MPG. There is nothing wrong with having a sohc engine like my VG....BUT...and its a big but...I've only got one intake and exhaust vavle on each cylinder. Above 5K....my engine just can't breathe well.

V6 accords are dogs at high speed. I was driving my stepmother's 2000 V6 home from a family reunion and decided to play with a chrysler Concorde, i found out that above 105 that car goes almost nowhere...

I had a pretty good race with one on the highway the other night. To tell you the truth I was suprised by how hard it pulled on the highway. I raced him from 100-120MPH and only put about a car lenght on him. From a red light I took the same guy by 3 cars up to 80MPH.

These efficiencies aren't really shown, well, to the consumer at least. Honda's saving money with an SOHC design. It costs less to build than a DOHC, but that may be offset by VTEC development and build costs. Also, the Honda V6 and Maxima (both autos) get the same MPG. So, Given all that, I'll take the VQ More cams are better.

The whole SOHC vs. DOHC thing is stupid. I agree the Accord V-6 needs a punch. But still, 260HP is 260HP (Type-S). Who cares if it's SOHC, or DOHC. Too bad no 6 -speed. A buddy of mine has a CL Type-S and it is tight. Honda definately dropped the ball with that no manual crap. I have never raced or driven a V-6 Accord so I can't say how they are on the street.

They do suck

A friend of mine just got a new 2001 v6 for his wife. He tried to talk her into a Max but she wasn't havin' it. We raced one night and to put a long story short, there were four people in my car and two in his and just to about 70mph he lost by at least 2 cars. If I were to by an Accord I would save some money by getting the 4cylinder and at least I would have an excuse for being smoked by just about every other V6 currently made.

Just my two cents.

And then, at least you could get a manual transmission and have some glimmer of "fun" in your ride. Stock, those things are just plain and simple econo-cars.

I used to be a big honda fan. But ever since 1994ish, for the most part, they've stopped making cars for the true driver. There's a few exceptions, but one of them is over $70,000, and all the others perform like a civic until you get them up to about 5,000rpms (which to me is useful on the track, but not on the city streets at all).
A 6-speed CL-S would be interesting.
