Clutch chatter message to Nissan
Clutch chatter message to Nissan
I just posted this on Nissan's website. Maybe they can help all of us who suffer this problem.
Message: My 1999 Maxima has had a clutch "chatter" problem since prox 20K miles. I mentioned it to my service writer back then (summer 2000), but he said he had never heard of such a thing and there were no factory service bulletins regarding clutch problems. The problem is most apparent on humid mornings, when the car lurches and jerks as the clutch is engaged in low gear. After 10-15 minutes of driving, the clutch begins to engage normally, which, by the way, is still a bit "grabby." I recently discovered this is not an isolated problem when I visited the Maxima owner's website at https://maxima.org. If you check out their "forum" for 95-99 Maximas and do a search on the word "clutch", you will find other owners with the same problem. I posted my problem yesterday and have since received dozens of sympathetic replies. Why should owners have to live with annoying clutch chatter on an otherwise extraordinary car? Does Nissan have a fix for the problem? Do the 2001 models also have this affliction? My last two manual trans cars had more than 100K miles when I sold them, with no clutch problems at all, so I am not hard on clutches. What can Nissan do to help me?

you should gather all the posts from this site that you found in the search... put them all together nicely and send that to them

personally when i start the car in the morning i hear a very very very light sound from the shifter area.... like 2 gears are very lightly touching each other... goes away when i press the clutch in...

It also might be tough to prove it to a dealership. You would have to wait unitl it has rained, or is humid, and you would also have to have time to bring it down.
